Jerry, I feel sure that you'll be receiving it. We're just waiting to find out which of us is gonna pay for it! ;)

JIM can't blame you for wanting the best sounding recording you possibly could get, thats anyone's main objective when making a cd to sell and you did a great job. ""glad you learned how to play country"""but then, you wanted us to A/B the 2 guitars and thats not even a challenge between your amp adjusting and the sound guy making all his adjustments, you possibly could make that fender 1000,or the multi-cord with enough knob turning sound as good as either of them, good luck guy's and happy guessing

PS::: Jerry maybe you need to guess again you got a few more combo's left hahaha

What we learned is that you wasted your money on buying a new guitar, since it sounds exactly like your old one!

Hey Shef, are you open to a bribe? Oh never mind, I already bought the CD.(And it's a good one}.

Alright... I'm going to move on to my original second guess which was/is 1, 2, and 10. If I'm right, I'm buying Jerry a copy of the CD.

(In case I'm wrong, though, I've already started practicing saying, "Why yes. I'm planning on playing a Millennium because of how much I like the sound of Jim Cohen's Fessenden.") :)

I own MSA's and a Fessenden, and I wouldn't even venture a guess. The guitar is not 5% of the tone equation, the hands, heart, amp, volume pedal, and effects are the other 95%. Just my opinion.

This is a great CD, and I'm not even a fan of country music. We can depend on Jim to do things a little different on his CD's as well as his live sets at the shows. There are some great players that I don't listen to anymore because they play the same old worn-out songs over and over, and I'm sick of them. That is not the case with Jim, he always comes up with something new and different. Didn't someone say once that "Variety is the spice of life"?

Darvin,

Can you say "I'm not even a fan of country music" on the forum??? :)

Sorry I missed Phoenix and Dallas--always look forward to seeing you there...

Thanks Darvin. Glad you like the disc.* As for 'Variety', I don't know but a lot of people keep telling me that they think my music is really 'Diverse'. Here's an example from my email in-box:
Dear Mr. Cohen,

Vell, I caught your show in Dallas. Dat vas really Diverse music I ever heard!

Sincerely,
Moshe
:whoa:

* I think a lot of the tone comes from the pedal rack, don't you? ;)

Now THAT was worthy of your avatar!

Thanks for my first smile of the day - I just hope the jokes get better as the day wears on....

I want that CD

OK. I listened. I gotta have it. Check is in the mail. >:-)

I don't have a guess for the contest, but that sure is some fine playin' though.

Best wishes for eveyone who is guessing...It's getting sort of exciting, ain't it? :D

I'm gonna stop posting in here, but I am watching...

Hi John, I missed you at those shows also, I always enjoy visiting with you. OOPS, the cat is out of the bag, not all Forumites are Country music fans.

Jim, in the case of your set in Dallas, the pedal rack had to have been a major factor in your sound, you never sounded better. LOL And if a Jewish German liked your set, you've got it made.

OK, we're getting ready to end the contest soon, probably later tonight, so if you're planning to guess, better do it now!

So, if no one got it, does that mean that those who guessed one or two correctly get either a third or two thirds of a CD??? :)

Now y'all ought to notice what Dean Parks is sayin' here because he has owned both Fessenden and Millenium guitars! (Of course, he might be mistaken too, just like most of the rest of y'all. ;))

OK Jim, since you say the game is about to end I will go ahead and announce the winning numbers for you. They are #4, #9 and #10 played on the Milly.
I have been stringing it out so you could sell enough CD's to clear mine.
Thanks,

HOWARD TATE!!!

Howard correctly identified the 'Milly Tracks' as:
#3 (Shuffle Off to Tupelo),
#6 (Mansion on the Hill), and
#8 (Neverending Song of Love)

Way to go, Howie-Baaabie! :D

You've just won yourself a FREE 'COHEN GOIN' COUNTRY' CD AND MATCHING RHYTHM TRACKS DISC. Congratulations!

What's that you say? You already bought the CD in Dallas? You paid 'good money' for it? You want a what for your prize?? A refund?? Wo-ho, Howie-Baaabie! I already wasted the money you paid me, Howie. I can't give it back. But sure, sure we can work something out, sure we can. Let me get back to you on that, okay Howie? Say, why don't we both sleep on it tonight and see what tomorrow brings? Yeah, that's the ticket! ;) )

As for the rest of y'all, well, we do also have 8 'HONORABLE MENTIONS', who are folks who got TWO of the THREE songs correctly identified. These folks include:

Jeff Bradshaw (3&6)
Bill Stroud (3&6)
Billy Carr (3&6)
Per Berner (3&6)
John DeMaille (6&8 )
Al Marcus (3&8 )
Dave Mudgett (3&8 )
Joseph Meditz (3&8 )

These 8 gentlemen, who got the contest 2/3 correct win the chance to buy the CD for 2/3 of the normal price, plus shipping. The disc normally sells for $15, so in the USA 2/3 of that is $10, plus $2 shipping for a total of just $12 (instead of the usual $17).

Ex-US (which applies only to Per, I believe) would be $10 + $5 shipping for a total of just $15 (instead of the usual $20).

My only request is that you place your order at the discounted price by midnight this Saturday night, March 29th, Eastern standard time.

For these special prices, don't go to my website to place the order. Instead, either PayPal me at jasaco 'at' aol.com (replacing the 'at' with '@', of course), or email me for alternate payment options. Be sure to mention in your order that you were an Honorable Mentionee in the Fessy/Milly contest.

Thanks again to everyone who participated and also to those who just enjoyed watching and reading, even if you didn't venture a guess on the guitars.

Thus ends the 'Shameless Commerce' part of this posting. We now return you to the 'Educational Point Of It All', which is:

Within range, a player can probably get pretty darn close to his/her desired tone using a variety of pedal steels. Lacquer vs Carbon fiber (and probably Mica too) doesn't have a whole lot to do with the final tone achieved. If you listen only with your ears and not with your eyes and preconceptions about what various guitars 'should' or 'shouldn't' sound like, your ears may have an awfully hard time telling different brands apart, at least once they have been 'optimized' by a particular player seeking to get a particular sound out of them. (Note: this does not apply to 'strict A/B comparisons' where one leaves all dials and controls set exactly the same. But in the real world, nobody does that. You buy a guitar and you tweak things till you get what you want out of it.)

Oh, I guess I should mention one other thing: Black guitars do sound best. ;)

Thanks everybody; hope ya enjoyed it! I know I did!
:)

Your pal,
Jimbeaux
p.s. I'm still trying to come up with an 'appropriate' award for Jerry Roller. How about 'Most Trying'? :whoa:

I ACTUALLY WON!!!! Excuse the yelling, I'm just so excited. Since I already have the CD, I'll settle for the fame and adulation of the less fortunate contestants, (and maybe a trip to Disneyland). I've noticed that I have several six string guitars and they usually all sound very similar, because I seem to set the controls on the guitar and amp to get that sound I'm used to.

Interesting!

Now then, I'd like to point out that I guessed - and stood by - number one which is, of course, the only number by which the actual numbers can be equally divided. Therefore,......Oh. never mind!

As has been said already so often here, this has been most instructive, and I dare say, fun.

Howard already owns the CD! I guess this proves the superiority of CD sound quality over MP3. We probably all would have won if we had it on vinyl. 8)

Congratulations, Howard.

So maybe next time you'll know to buy your copy of the CD early, before Jimbeaux starts these silly online games... ;)

Jim-Im glad I got two of them, so I'll take the CD at the 2/3 price. Congrats to Howard.

BTW I am not making any excuses, But when I listened to your Demos, the one I wasn't quite sure about was #4 or #6, it was late at night so I picked #4. Darn!

Thanks anyway, Good Show, lots of fun and you have talents beyond playing the Steel Guitar...al.:):):)

Anybody else notice how rare around these parts Jerry Roller has suddenly become? Somebody better check up on him and make sure he's not out drowning his sorrows for his misfortune in this latest contest... :whoa:
