I have taken Jeff Newman's "442.5" temperment and dropped everything 2 hertz,so the "E's" on the E9th are at 440.5,and pulled the 2 F# strings, 1and 7 up to 440.C6th tuning, the same, just drop to 440.5 on the root.

I don't play out much on E9th, so when I play it at home it's mostly by ear to a reference note, so probably closer to JI. I think that if I were playing out with a band, especially one with a keyboard, I'd keep it closer to ET.

On the C6th, where I spend most of my time, it's always ET. Any JI tuned C6th pedal steel I've ever played sounds way out of tune to my ear when I start pushing pedals. I want the option of playing dense, four note voicings, and employing chord substitutions in all keys. There are so many complex chord interactions going on with a C6 pedal tuning that has a lot of changes, that I just can't make it work any other way than ET.

But that's just what works for me, and maybe it's a reflection of my own limitations.
