Well, Basilh, I was thinking you might have a little too much time on your hands until I saw that you had been the one to make the original post. I should have known that somebody would have thought of it. Is this the longest thread ever? Or is it only the least substancial? Either way, I'm sure there is nothing like it anywhere else.

Whilst it's true that Basil is a very busy man, and spends a lot of time publishing Aloha Dream, playing all over the country, etc., it was Bob Knight who started this thread.

What did this thing start out as? I can see that Bob Knight had a few responses and then edited it the next day. Was there anything besides nothing originally?

It was about Nothing, in particular !

BTW ALAN I think Edward meant the original mention of the song !!

Hey speaking of some of this talk about getting something from nothing, anybody been following this... (yeah this one belongs in the humor section..)

Anyone else try inventing a "magnet motor" when they were a kid? Well before we got to the unit on the law of conservation of energy, I did. However, these guys claim to have done it...

So they were supposed to have a big unveiling last summer, and wouldn't you know it, they had some "technical problems" and so fourth.

The Steorn Motor
Energy/fuel used: Nothing
Energy actually produced: Nothing
Stockholders' return on their investments: Nothing
Body of evidence supporting the technology: Nothing
Confidence level found within the scientific community: Nothing
My own personal degree of confidence that they are not charlatans: Nothing
Probable future outlook for the company: Nothing

But click here and let them tell their side of the story too...

Billy Preston - Nothing From Nothing

Nothing from nothing leaves nothing
You gotta have something
If you wanna be with me
Nothing from nothing leaves nothing
You gotta have something
If you wanna be with me

I'm not trying to be your hero
Cause that zero is too cold for me
I'm not trying to be your highness
Cause that minus is too low for me

Nothing from nothing leaves nothing
And I'm not stuffing, believe you me
Don't you remember I told you
I'm a solider in the war on poverty

Nothing from nothing leaves nothing
You gotta have something
If you wanna be with me
Nothing from nothing leaves nothing
You gotta have something
If you wanna be with me

it ain't perpetual motion,
BUT someone just handed me a schematic for
a re-chargable battery charger built from a household cooling fan.

You put some small magnets around the fans blade perimeter,
and a small coil system around the blades safety housing.
This is a mini dynamo, so it can charge the batteries,
while you cool yourself.

Since ALL HOMES here run FANS 24/7 when AC isn't installed,
then you have battery chargers always ready to roll.
Just need build it and make it pretty enough.

And that ain't nothing.

Great idea! Well, except that the fan will use more power because it has to do more work by both moving air and charging the batteries (in probably a less efficient manner than a charger) which will drive up overall energy use, so you may as well just plug in the battery charger. :|

If the batteries are small and on the fan tips,
they will act like a fly wheel and stabalise the
speed of the fan and it should use the same or less energy.

No compare a fan with fly wheel with
a fan and battery charger too both drawing juice.

Maybe the fan, which is running anyway,
x 2-3 in many places, will use a bit more juice.
But you STILL lose the battery charger in the wall.

So likely using one energy drain to do two jobs.

A little closer to nothing.

I have a power strip that's rated 15-20 amps input. Each of the receptacles (6) are rated 15 amps output.

This means I can put 15 to 20 amps in and get up to 90 amps out.

That's really genuinely almost something from almost nothing...

TRUE STORY

I know an ASS-A SOURIS

Who tried to run his 220 volt air condition from his 110 volt receptical

It has to work you have 110 volts on the top one and 110 volts on the bottom one

110+110=220

Of course telling the electric company that
their bill is nothing works 'bout's well as
talking to the Birmingham Council.

Uh, that ain't quite how it works, David. Even if the batteries balanced the fan better than it is from the factory (which isn't likely, but let's say it did) and they added mass to it like a flywheel, it would take more mechanical energy to get the thing started and only yield the same amount when you turn it off (it'll take longer to slow down). But even when it's running it'll be harder for the fan motor to turn if it's charging batteries because that makeshift generator will add a mechanical load to the system. If it took no extra effort to turn a generator, you wouldn't need powerful steam turbines to turn the generators in power plants.

Guess you should be able to get it going and then plug it into itself... You gotta be quick though.

My wife is from Nebraska. Shortly after we were married we were living in England (about 200 yards from where Basil is living now.) Light bulbs in England are all bayonet-fittings. You have to push them in and turn them clockwise about 30 degrees. My wife didn't know that, so when she had to change a bulb she kept unscrewing the old one and ended up unscrewing the light fixture out of the ceiling.

That's as bad as some of these people who try to run one of these orange Woodford® yard hydrants that just mount right to the top of the pipe coming out of the ground... See the water is under pressure and all you have to do is lift up on the handle, and it opens the valve and the water runs out continuously. I've heard of people sitting there "pumping" on the handle thinking they're pumping it out of the ground, but they're really just turning it on and off.

Sorry for the topic drift but for crying out loud, the topic is "Nothing" and it's 23 pages long! I think a little drift is forgivable. :alien:

I was tired.
The MAGNETS are on the rotating part,
NOT the batteries.
Dyslexia and sleep deprivation rear's it's ugly head.

They pass a coil as they turn and create a pulse.
and that is amplified and goes through a diode grid.
And this is to charge the batteries.

The above is from my initial conversation with friend.

The version I was shown a schematic of
is part battery powered motor, and a coil system.
allegedly it makes more energy than it uses to be
set in motion.
Not perpetual motion, but apparently an efficient dynamo system,
using 21st century theory, rather than 100 year old theory.

I was asked about finding the parts to build the charging system,
and It seems easy enough to do.

Will it give something from nothing. I have no clue.

Ok Bob no foul.
If you had copied the WHOLE line I would have got your meaning.

Some of Bedini's ideas.

There are many links to this stuff I am just discovering.

My friend is interested in renewable, low cost alternate power schemes.
For living on islands for instance.
And also to just save money.

This includes solar and water power schemes.

Our friend has designed a handheld spot light that uses capacitive discharge to give HUGE power gains from special LEDS.

He handed me this, below, and asked if I could find the parts and wire the circuits for him.

Image

Universal cheap power, well I don't know,
Saving some power is cool.
I have seen working models in action
and seen the scopes say there was something there.

Small magnets on fan tips CAN cause magnetic pulses
in coils,
otherwise guitar pickups would not work. Same principle.

More magnets and coils, more pulses.
If the fan is in use, why not make it do two jobs?

If a solar powered unit can power a Bedini motor,
and IT can generate greater amounts of energy,
it seems a net plus to me.

So why not build one.
Naught for nothing if you do naught.

:) There's another source of untapped energy....

People try to take off weight working bicycle machines and rowing machines, etc. What they're doing is intentionally wasting calories. (They're wasting BTUs, too, but I digress. :whoa: )

Attach dynamos to the wheels of those things and you can be generating energy while losing weight. :D

That must be a win/win situation. :D

...but it'll probably come to NOTHING.
