Too NEW of a NEWBIE to start gigging?

Vocals and picking a tele is my forte', but I've been playing the steel for about 2 years now, but I haven't played a gig on the steel yet. I think I'm ready, but I like to be fairly familiar with the material so I can woodshed the licks. I usually am playing guitar and singing and Ron Kirby is playing steel with us, so I just haven't done it yet.
