Well I found my pro-II on the forum.
Learned how I wanted it setup.
How I wanted it modified.
Got to discuss many copedent possibilities,
and staggering amounts of alternative possibilities.
It has allowed me to re-assess what my
goals for the instrument CAN BE,
not just my original ideas.
Rediscovered older music I had missed out on.
Such as early Ray Price.
Discovered new music I hadn't heard of.
Such as: Randy Beavers, Al Vescovo, The Doodars,
Dan Tyack, Big E's back catalog, Mike Perlowin,
Jake Hooker/Dickie/Justin/Bobby/Amber, Ricky Davis,
A wealth of Hawaaian players :
Kay Das, Rick Aiello, Gerald Ross, Ricky again,
L.T. Zinn, and many others.
Made several new friends,
many of whom I have since met in person.
Met some people I can never find common ground with,
but still like in some ways.
I am sure the same is inverse also.
It got me to 2 ISGC's,
and I got to back up great players at both.
It also got me to Drogheda Ireland and Newbury England.
Saw many cousins of my Supro.
And other drool worthy lapsteels.
Made me pine for many PSG's of all vintages.
But also it gave me a link to several interesting
cross sections of the American populace.
As an anthropological / socialogical study, it has been quite interesting for me.
To say the forum has changed my life
would not be an understatement.
[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 28 July 2006 at 10:51 PM.]

b0b, it doesn't take much reading between the lines to understand how much we are all dependent on the Forum and appreciate the way you run it.
We'd all be the poorer for it if you ever tired of the effort you obviously put into the running of it.
We've all watched it evolve and grow and seen how you've gone through the challenges of that growth with seeming ease..it has udoubtedly been a lot harder than you make it look.
Thanx, old buddy, from all of us.

for me.ike right now for example, sitting in a Hotel Room 800 miles from home. I stop by, scan the topics, read what my forum pals are saying, , some I agree with, some I laugh at ,some I laugh with and some I shake my fist at..but at the end of the day ,signing on is like being at home in part of a family conversation, even if I don't post or reply.
thanks b0b, we got a good thing here..
Kevin, good topic..

I've made a lot of new friends through the Forum. Reuniting with some long lost old friends has been a real thrill. I got to meet most of the players who were my idols when I started out. I found them to be "real people" friendly and open.
I'm glad I got to know Hal Rugg & Jeff Newman and many who have since passed on.
I found John Hughey, Lloyd Green, Tom Brumley, Paul Franklin and many other "big" names very approachable. That guy that Laney is married to isn't too bad either..what is his name.....??????
I don't think I play any better since joining the Forum, but I found out I can still get paid for playing as bad as I do anyway.
