There's a few people who aren't in the HOF that oughta be....and Bobbe sure is one of 'em.

Heck, his weekly "Bobbe's Tips" should also be in the SGHOF !

As a strategy for getting the most info on Bobbe and putting it together without working one person to death, maybe we could set up a thread on this forum for people to state facts about Bobbe's career. We could have the thread arranged by the seven categories. You could contribute to one, some, or all. As the threads develop, forumites would read and be reminded of things they could contribute.

Bobbe for Hall of Fame? I could definitely
go for that- but they have been inducting at least two, these last few years, so how about my friend,RUSS HICKS?-also very deserving!

I also would gladly support Bobbe for the SGHOF. as to the question of one guy over the other, consider who has had a more profound impact on the overall development of all aspects of the instrument; include such criteria as body of work, technique, flexibility (Bobbe recorded with Iron Maiden: yikes), promotion of the instrument to prospective players and lastly TOTAL support of the playing community... sometimes to his own detriment... short of a few legendary guys I can't think of anyone else that deserves it as much. And that is not just because he has been good to me, it's what I hear from others before I ever met him and long after the last time I saw him. He is a class act, and as far as I can tell always was.

I can't understand why he's not there long ago. Just look at all the years of his professional playing, recording sessions, knowledge of music and the instrument(s), public relations work, great man to do business with, IMO (and I'm sure many, many will agree), the list just goes on and on. What else does a man have to do?

I put the above url first because my previous posts have been uninformed. We should follow the above guidelines closely. They are very clear. They state precisely what points to cover, and what the procedure is. The rules are as carefully crafted as the rules for other official organizations--for example, by-laws and mission statements.

So the process for inducting people is fair and judicious. For example, strict confidentiality is followed. Only the board knows who has been nominated and what the nominations say. That's why copies of previous nominations should not and are not made available.

After carefully reading the guidelines and procedures several times, I see that the Board gets a lot of nominations, and they have to go through them carefully. They have to gather all the information about each candidate and then evaluate it. It takes weeks.

It seems to me that my biggest error was in going at this as if a candidate is like a politician who has to have a lot of followers promoting him to get elected. That's not the way this process works, nor should it. Politics is the last model we should follow. And the way to do that is to let the guidelines help us do things right.

Also, it seems to me that we need to be careful about how we use this forum. There are a lot of deserving candidates. Realize how people who are supporting other candidates must feel. If we follow the rules, every nominee and nominator gets an equal chance. And if your preference isn't chosen, there's always next year.

So it seems to me that a steel guitar forum shouldn't be a political forum. Otherwise we're going to get political factions taking sides. We're going to get resentments.

And we need to keep in mind that we aren't the Board. It's not up to the people who favor a candidate to determine who should get inducted, because only the Board knows the facts and opinions stated about the nominees.

That's my opinion. What do you think?
[This message was edited by Darryl Hattenhauer on 08 April 2006 at 08:26 PM.]

I think bobbe should be there in the HOF, he did contribute alot to this trade, and there is nothing wrong with anyone voicing there view points on the forum about this, I think jimmie had a great idea of utilizing the forum with his post, he is perfectly with in the guidlines of the forum, bobbe never got caught like pete rose! God Bless The Reds!! and God Bless Bobbe

Hi A. J.

Yep, I'd like to see him get it too. I wrote about the rules and procedures so I can increase his chances. It won't help to sign a petition, send emails, or write letters that don't focus on the seven points.

You're sure right that Jimmie had a great idea in using the forum to get the ball rolling. I'm just wondering how we should roll the ball, and the guidelines tell us.

You're also right that people should continue to have the right to give their views. That's why I asked for people to give their opinions, and I'm glad you did, and I hope others follow your example.

I especially appreciate your comment about the forum guidelines, because this is kind of a gray area, and for all I know, forumites might think that supporting different candidates here would be a good thing.

Bobbe is, indeed, the Charlie Hustle of steel. And I don't want to be Charlie Hassle. So let's give him a good shot, not a Marge Schott.

Thanks again A.J. and everybody here.
[This message was edited by Darryl Hattenhauer on 09 April 2006 at 08:30 AM.]

Darryl, you may find that emailing, posting on the forum, calling, lobbying, bad-mouthing and getting Bobbe's backers to inundate the HOF Board could get the desired result of induction. There will come a day that you will find these unseemly tactics succeeded.

I would suggest that a properly prepared nomination, submitted in a civil manner, would go a long way to achieving your goal faster.
[This message was edited by Alan James on 10 April 2006 at 08:36 AM.]

Thanks, Alan. Comments like yours will help get this done. Doing it according to the rules helps everybody. I hope the HOF never softens on these guidelines, and I believe they never will.

Darryl I had to laugh at charlie hustle of steel, I liked that. If anyone is to be nominated into the HOF I think it should be done while the individual is still alive! I can't count how many times the country music HOF inducted individuals that are dead, yes they are deserving but honor them when they are among us so they can appreciate it.take care and the reds lost today so everyone in cincinnati is sad.

Thanks, A. J.

Bobbe has to be hustling all the time to do everything he does. Not just music but cars, bikes, planes.

I remember that play when the Charlie Hustle of baseball was playing first cuz he was getting old, and despite his age he ran over full tilt to back up the catcher on a pop up. And the ball popped out of the catcher's glove, but Pete jumped forward and caught it.

That's the way Bobbe must be living his life. I wonder if he's got access to some special regimen of vitamins.
[This message was edited by Darryl Hattenhauer on 09 April 2006 at 05:55 PM.]

Yes, I agree completely. I also think that persistence is a key issue. If we form a team of forum members to continue to submit a well-crafted and clear nomination year after year after year, if necessary, it would be hard to ignore. I would help if that was useful - I think I can craft and write a pretty good logical argument. But I think some more experienced members with a better knowledge of Bobbe's professional history and how he fits in the larger steel guitar picture are needed to give factual authenticity to such an effort.

Charlie Hustle of steel guitar - yeah, I think that fits. To me, Pete Rose is one of the true baseball greats of the 20th century - you earn that stuff on the field, IMO. The above link is by far the best statement I can imagine about how nominees should be nominated. IMO, the above should be mandatory reading for all people who want to get somebody nominated.

Yes, Daryl - anybody who wants to see somebody inducted should read this carefully. A strong, detailed, articulate, and fact-based dossier and argument is needed. I see that thread as a blueprint for how to make a nomination succeed. I think it's worth the effort, but it will take a lot of work, time, and patience to make this happen. Voting, complaining, and talk alone don't cut it.

Retcop and Dave,

Exactly. All supporters and nominees should respect the other supporters and nominees. And the best way to do it is for everybody to stay on the impressive track that the ISGA has perfected.

If the next step (for supporters of any nominee) is to find an informed individual to gather the info, how should such a person be found? Please offer opinions.

To quote George

"Dr. Seymour should be in the HOF. Who has done more to promote the steel guitar?"

Your probably correct about Mr Seymour but I would also ask, "Who has done more for the entire steel guitar community than our LEADER, b0b?"

They BOTH belong there IMHO.
[This message was edited by Jack Francis on 12 April 2006 at 03:15 PM.]
