When I moved to Nashville in 1987 with two kids and a third on the way and no job,Bobbe was one of two people I personally knew in town. For two weeks I would go there every other day or so and hang for a while. One day, the phone rang and he was busy, so he asked me to answer it. When the call was completed he asked me what I was doing the next day. My reply was nothing. Well, he said, why don't you come in and answer the phone for me. It was January and nothing much was happening in Nashville for a new player, but the job he gave me helped me survive my first few months in Nashville and feed my family and get my bearings in a new musical environment. I will never forget the help and encouragement he gave a Yankee slug..Thank you Bobbe....

I've never met this Bobbe "Dude". Now, after all these complaints, I'm scared to meet him.

Someone told me that he puts his pants on both feet in at the same time! Now that takes talent....

Yeah, I heard that too. Probably from Bobbe. But I've met him.

Bobbe has helped so many of us, in so many ways, it's nice to read about how Stu helped him get started in Nashville.

Way, way back in time, I was referred to Bobby's store for an item that I had been unable to find, and not only did he send it to me immediately, he sent an extra just in case I screwed up applying the decal to my guitar.

In further communications we found that we had covered some of the same venues in Oklahoma while he was in the Air Force and I was in the Army.

In case I neglected to thank you Bobby for the extra attention, please accept it now. You are a "world champion" steel player and individual.

Bobbe: the James Bond of the steel guitar world ... steel guitars, fast cars, airplanes, beautiful women. For all I know he keeps his Pac-A-Seat shaken, not stirred.

Hanging out with Bobbe in his store and buying a Fender triple from him was an all-around great experience (except for the pain of having sold it back to him a few years later).

Bobbe you absolutely slay me when you play standards like Misty and Once In A While on that Bigsby with all those big, fat beautiful substitute chords. Please hold on to your remaining digits!

I've never met Bobbe in person, and don't know if I'll ever have the chance. But I was in a discussion on this forum stemming from comments he made in his newsletter disparaging rock guitarists playing loud and distorted. When others and I explained the purpose of that style and the necessary techniques needed to control a guitar being driven into feedback by a high powered amp, he admitted he had been mistaken.

That's a mighty big man, in my book. And I am proud that he calls mde a friend.
