Here in my part of LA (San Fernando Valley) there are very few Country establishments, but one in Chatsworth has live music at least 6 nights a week, and I think all 7. Many of the bands do not have a full time steel player but from talking to them, virtually all of them would like one. If I played more than three chords, I could be sitting in more often than I could stand. That particular place is packed almost every night. Unfortunately it's not a big place. I think the area could handle a second club with live music if the place was done right. There is a lot of line dancing (yuck) but it's all music that can take a steel.

Additionally, there are the unique sessions that Mike Perlowin and Ernest Bovine do that are not country at all.

There are options for players even in this area. It depends on how much you really want to play.

I've got a new band that hasn't started gigging yet, but once we do, we want to find a venue to use as a "dress rehearsal" type of thing, perhaps using a different name than we will use for "real shows." We're hoping to persuade some manager in small bar to let us set up once a week for a small amount of cash (or dinner), some soft drinks and a beer or two. We just want to establish a weekly gig on a weeknight to supplement a weekly rehearsal and see how the regulars react to our ideas. Cover songs, original songs, inspired improvisations, musical self-indulgences...Could be great, could be a disaster. Only one way to find out.

Playin' gigs / dates are immeasurable for the advancement of players.
The price one pays by puttin' up,
w: the B Ze, the Smo:ke, + the Wee Wee hours is well worth the Reward.
Don't count on makin'$$$$$ though, at first.

Wood sheddin' + practice are the hidden part of the iceberg.
it is indispensable to get out + Play,
Sit in, or Jam, every chance one gets.
Playin' in church is also a wonderfull compensation from playin' in the devil's house !
But then it's amazing how people can be
while in them roadhouses.
it was best back when, between 1930/1970,
post depression, WWII, Elvis,the Beatles +
Vietnam. Maybe Ronnie Reagan + Computers were the beginning of the End ?
maybe it is harder nowadays for young players to get out + play.
