I solved the plastic thumb pick problem with a metal one. Believe me, I tried a load of different plastic picks because that's what most people do, but they were all floppy except the hard brown Dunlops which wore down too fast.

I use an all-metal Propik (not the one with the separate plastic blade).

I can verify that there are no "best" finger picks, just those that work for you. I bought a couple of sets of Hi-Riders. They work well for me. (Plus, no resinous crap fouling up my strings.) The only thing that I wish was that the picks were made of a little bit thicker steel, to prevent the blades from bending.

When my fingertips are dry and I can't keep the picks on securely, I take a dab of regular, clear hand sanitizer and rub it on the inside surfaces of the picks. It keeps the picks on my fingers, nice and snug. These days, there is hand sanitizer prominently displayed everywhere. A little squeeze bottle doesn't take up much room in the pack-a-seat.

Much more sanitary than licking your fingers.
