I even hate to admitt it but with 25+ years of playing I've never played an Emmons. All Sho-Buds and one MSA. A friend of mine has a black beauty with a lift kit. I can't even reach the darn pedals. I could finally buy one, maybe two.

I would buy a Millennuim for myself and then buy everyone on the forum a new piece of gear or steel.
The fact is I dont play the lottery to win.
I play it so I dont lose.

Mike, the obvious answer is not "which steel" but according to many here, is "How many" and I concur with that answer. You can never have too many steels and which color? Blond, brunette, redhead?

I'd see about designing my own - interesting.

I realize this is an old thread but here goes. I have, my humble opinion, the best steels at this time. I would buy my wife an old restored Corvette and a real Longhorn calf.

A 66 Emmons D-10 -- black, from Bobbe Seymour.

I'd have to get me a Lacquer D10 Rains and a D10 Carter with premium necks and the old wood.

Of course, I'd need a new 40 foot, diesel, Prevost carrying case Image

Whereas winning the Lottery can get you the best steel in the world, not even Bill Gates money (50+ billion) can make you the best player in the world. And that is really all the matters.

I won't worry too much about which steel. I'd invest paying for a good teacher and concentrating on the lessons.

The Lord has blessed me, and don't think I don't thank Him every day of my life. Without winning the lottery or having anywhere near the same galaxy of those kinds of dollars, I play the instruments I would purchase if I had all the money in the world; a 1964 Emmons, a 1970 Sho-Bud Professional, a 1956 Stringmaster, a 1949 Bigsby, and a made-for-me Fessenden.

Now if I had only bought all the real estate I could have gotten at bargain basement prices over the years... sheeesh!!! Image

Jimmy Days' Blue Darlin' that we've all been drooling over here on the Forum. And maybe that blonde Super Pro II that I've seen here too. Also a nice Emmons, and one of those new hybrid Zums.

I'd get a GFI E9th 12 string 3 and 5 with a Z lever, plus an MSA Millenium C6th 12 string with what ever peddles Reese would suggest, and a 7 string lap steel tuned to Shot jacksons E tuning.

I put some more thought into it, assuming Mike's scenario that I won the Lottery.

I've decided I'd open up a steel guitar store, and I'd keep it open until the money ran out.

That's a hard one to answer because there are a lot of steels I love. My GFI Ultra D-10 is a wonderful steel guitar and I can't stop playing it! Brett, Emmons S-10, Morrell lapsteel, GFI Ultra D-10

I am not trying to be the "heavy" here, but go back and read what Winnie Winston wrote. Prophetic.

Thanks for that comment Chris.

Winnie taught us all a lot more than steel.
