Yes, Andy, 'Alone again Naturally', thing about that song was that it was a big hit at the time of the Munich Olympics in the early seventies and when I hear that song it reminds me of that time during the hostage crisis,

Funny how a song can trigger memories, much like smells can do also.

Don't know the names of some tear jerkers my dad used to sing, but some of the words were:
"There's a little rosewood casket, sitting on a marble stand; there's a package of love letters written by my true love's hand...."
And there's the one about some GI's being fresh with a waitress who turns out to be the sister of one of their friends...brother jack, or something like that...(different moral standards in the 1940's I think)...
And finally, the cowhand who won't make it home to see his mother..."when the work's all done this fall..."
Might be some Jimmy Rogers stuff, don't know...but dad used to like a lot of his songs..
I bet a few of you guys recognize some of those words..

Right you are, Craig. After reading your post I was reminded of listening to "Where have all the flowers gone" while in Vietnam...and wondering....

For my likes I'd vote "Tears in Heaven" by Eric Clapton.
What can be more sad than losing a child by falling out of a window.
How terrifying can that be.

Hitting the heavies. Even the title is sad, but a great piece, if you can take sad.

"Feelings" by Morris Albert....

Every time I hear it I cry praying that the tune wil get over soon....

Makes my ears hurt.

That one and "Traces"...

When I was a kid in the eighties, the song I thought was really sad was Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called To Say I Love You". I love the song, but as a kid, for some reason, every time that song would play on the radio, I always had tears in my eyes, and I have no idea why-I don't know if it was the lyrics, music, or what, but it drove me crazy. Now, thirty-one years later, I'm still tryin' to figure out why that song bothered me. Now, when that song starts to play, I laugh at that memory and sing along with the song! It'd be a great steel instrumental!

JB's song "Sleep's Dark and Silent Gate" is a killer for me. Written for his first wife, who committed suicide.
