Ok, I'll throw in. Haven't been here in a while. Some very interesting guitars in this thread. Here's my own four legged console creation. I changed the fretboard design since I last posted about this, after finishing the build a few months ago. I've had a chance to gig with this guitar several times now, and I'm really pleased with it.

I ran across these two pic's of Dad and some of his steels. One I found about a week ago and posted on another thread, the bottom one I just found.

Dad's rare 3 neck steel

And His double neck steel. Sorry I had to blackout the bottle logo.

Why did you have to block out the label?

Man, I have never seen a T-8 Epiphone in that model. And the double looks like a D-6 Epi possibly? That has to be impossibly rare. Great pics of your Dad.

Jay, I thought I had better black out the label to keep any copyright issue at bay.

Scott, Yes Dad has several steels. I know that my Brother has a few of dad's and grand dad's steels. I will check to see if they are still here. He was a very accomplished Steel player, and had many different steels. I don't know how many of these are still around. I need to go to the house and look for them. Jeff and I are still discovering things that we haven't seen in years.

Home made (very well however) some 50 years ago but restored since by someone. Plays well but it's too damm heavy.

I know. It's a sickness! 8)

Jeff, that's a very solid looking guitar. I'm impressed with all the great looking home made steel guitars I've seen on this forum.

That was my first thought too. The rounded edges of the body look very cozy and comfortable to play.

Thanks, I intentionally made it as short as possible so that it would easily fit into a medium size suitcase along with the legs. And it all does. Its a 22 1/2" scale and its only 25" long total. Traveling between the USA and Thailand as much as I do makes it necessary for me to go light and small. It works well and that's what counts. The wood is western red cedar and the frets are wood-burned. I'm tickled that anyone likes it. Thanks, Don

Console partners

Post by Jan Viljoen »

Guys,

At 1/20 the price of a Gibson, these partners give me just as much pleasure.

Pickups are still original, but I changed the pots and caps with Stew Mac replacements.

Enjoy the games!
