Hi, Roland ... yep, technically, the club
is formed, but we've not had our first meeting yet (I've been running into a few snags where backup musicians are concerned in trying to set up our first get together). I have a lead on some back up players, but I'm not sure if or when they'll be available. I'm hoping that hurdle will be solved in the near future (gotta admit I'm getting really anxious and eager to have a first meeting).
I'm especially eager since Friday night ... actually, come to think of it, I think we accidentally did have a first meeting "unofficially" without it being planned
... Mickey Adams came into town for the weekend and I called up a few players to let them know ... well, we went out to a club in Denham Springs to see Hal Higgins play and suddenly there we were ... Hal Higgins, Mickey Adams, Billy Tam, Tommy Shown, Lamar Posey (who plays lead in the house band and is also an accomplished steel player) ... and then there was myself to bring the number to six steel players at the same club; then, George Turner showed up and we were seven players (but only one steel there). Here's a quick photo (courtesy of Mickey Adams):
Left to right, Tommy, Hal, Mickey, me, Billy, Lamar and my nephew, Sheldon.
We all had a great time visiting and we're looking forward to getting everyone together for an actual steel meeting for real.
I'll be posting something about that as quickly as possible.

My Pleasure, Roland. This was my second time to hear Hal play and I really enjoyed hearing him.
I'll definitely let you know when we're going to do this thing and we'll be looking forward to seeing you there when we do.

Hi, guys ... I'm sorry I haven't been in here in so long ... right after coming up with this and starting to work on it, my schedule went totally insane and my attentions were directed elsewhere; then, almost 4 weeks ago I had a stroke and I'm now in rehab for recovery and healing.
I appreciate all the interest. Soon as I'm healed up and back home I'd like to resume trying to put together something for us, but looks like I'm a little out of commission for the time being.
Louisiana Ham Operator / Steel Players

Here's one I'll never forget. Years ago, while driving up I-95 from a gig in Maryland, I was tuning around on 75 meters, and stumbled across a group of 4 or 5 hams talking about steel guitars. Naturally, I broke-in and the conditions were quite good so we could all hear each other. Turns out they were ALL steel players and ALL from Louisiana, and ALL on their way home from playing gigs, same as me. My dad was from Lake Charles and I have cousins around DeRidder, so it was an enjoyable contact that I'll always remember. (Wish I could remember their call signs.)
Perhaps you could post a request to find Louisiana ham operator / steel players, and stir some additional interest.
Best wishes with your organization,
