Well, I just got home from the CISGA meeting, and let me tell you, we are all pumped up about this show. I can't emphasize enough how much you all need to make plans to be there. Like they say, "The hits just keep on coming".
Can't spill the beans too much, but you can tell quite a bit from the posts already on this forum about this show. You just gotta do what ya gotta do to make it. That's all I can say. Show up to our quarterly show this Sunday in Bloomington for sample, and you'll see what I mean.
I can't wait.

OK forum members, if you are within a driving distance of East Peoria, IL you will be sorry if you miss this event!!

June 26th 2005 - East Peoria, Illinois

Central Illinois Steel Guitar Assn's Steel Jam 2005 is taking shape of what will be one of the finest and most professional shows second to St Louis or Dallas!

Here are the top 10 reasons to attend Steel Jam '05 in no certain order:

1. It is being held in one of the Premier hotels in Central Illinois, the Par-a-Dice Hotel Ballroom. This hotel which sets near the banks of the Illinois River and overlooks the skyline of Peoria, features a ballroom with BEAUTIFUL acoustics and aesthetics, Two restaurants, a Casino,& more

2. The sound production company is one of the finest in the Midwest. They provide sound for MAJOR arena concerts/shows all over the USA. The sound engineer mixing the show is a pro that also plays Steel Guitar.

3. The staff band that has been assembled for this is comprised of the cream of the crop for the midwest. We have the fantastic Russ Weaver on Bass, Mike "Mr. Taste" Lathim on Guitar, Crissy Corson on Keys, and former Nashville road musician and the Midwests' premier drummer Jimmy Willis, and a few other surprises!

4. Featured Steel Player for this show is DOUG JERNIGAN. Doug will perform as only Doug can on two full sets. If you have not seen Doug before or if you have seen him a hundred times, why would you pass on seeing him again! He is Awesome!
Doug is also offering a full day seminar on the Saturday before the Show, there may still be some available spots. Who would pass up a full day lesson with Doug? Unless you already know more than him...you won't want to miss out!

5. Don E. Curtis, of Scotty's Music will leave you speechless when he plays his set and he will be available in the booth for Scotty's Music.

6. We are featuring many of the Midwests' top steel players performing one after another. Illinois is a virtual hotbed of extremely talented players. We also will feature players from Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri and a few surprises!

7. Many steel/music vendors will have a booth at Steel Jam '05 offering deals on almost anything you would need!

8. SteelRadio.com will broadcast portions of this show live all around the world on steelradio.com. If you cant make it "Tune in and Turn it up"!

9. In addition, to the fantastic Staff Band we are featuring some of the best vocalists' in the area to include Dean "Dino" Dobbins and Rich Mounce to enhance the sounds of our Steelers and Staff Band.

Hey Tim...WOW you sure nailed it but let me clear up a couple of things. I have had several e-mails so thought I would address this here. Don E Curtis will be at the show and I believe he will have a booth selling his CD's etc but unfortunately Scotty will not be able to be with us. I had a nice e-mail from Scotty wishing us luck but he will be at the show in Akron that Sun. Michael Scott will be at the show but representing Steelradio. Corson Music will be there with some great deals on equipment. He is bringing a great variety of amps so come and check out some of the brand new Nashville 1-12s and the Steel King among others. It will be a great show with Doug Jernigan leading the way.

Howdy folks. Well, we had our quarterly show last Sunday at the VFW in Bloomington. We had a great turnout and the show was a huge success. Jerry Erickson played his new GFI Ultra, keyless and sounded amazing. Played some really nice stuff, and not the usual stuff you hear. Did a really nice job. Darrel Cummins was up next and he just tore the house down. He was doing some really nice twin stuff with Mike "Mr. Taste" Lathim on guitar. The staff band was unbelieveable. Chrissy Corson on keys, and she still amazes me every time I hear her. She played 'kick Bass' on keys for Jerry's set, and you'd never know there wasn't a bass player playing. She's too much.
Bob Bobell & Jimmy Willis on drums, definitely a pair of rock solid drummers, and 2 of the finest around. Terry Burmeister played bass for Darrel, and for the jam, and you couldn't ask for much better than that. What a set of pipes on that guy too. He did some singing, as did Rich Mounce, Dean Dobbins, Chrissy Corson, and Darin Hamilton. They all did us proud.
After the big dogs finished their sets, we had a steel jam session, as is our custom. Tim Harr, Gary Sill and myself. Well, I can speak for the 3 of us I think when I say we have all had better days, but we still had a blast and look forward to the next chance to redeem ourselves a bit. Played some fun stuff tho and just kinda 'went' with it.
Can't wait till the big show in June. Ya'll come on out and have a blast with us.
I'm heading down to Gulfport Mississippi for a breather, and to catch the Deep South Steel Guitar show June 4th. They have quite a line-up scheduled this month, and I'll get to catch up with some old friends, and hopefully some new ones.
Speaking of new friends, ya'll check out some of the goodies at Jeff Blackwells site at www.steelguitargear.com. He'll be at the Gulfport show too.
Oh, and if I left anyone out from the Sunday CISGA show, I apologize. I know Rich will chime in and help me out tho. I was surprised that Lyle Clary didn't make it on Sunday. Where ya at Lyle?
Later,
BD

Hey Bobby...You only forgot what thing Buddy. This is May 26 which means Steel Jam 05 is only a month away! I am almost afraid to say this but things have really fallen into place and what a show we have lined up. Some of the finest playing in the midwest at one place. DOUG JERNIGAN headlining the show and a solid full day of steel guitar and friends getting together. Doesn't get any better than that! Hope everyone will make the show. It will be worth your coming.

Hey Billy,
Yes, on both counts. We have Carl Kilmer (a professional videographer) dialed in to make a DVD of the show, for the players that will allow it. He plans to take a feed straight off the board. I have seen a sample of his work from another steel show and it is very nice. Also, I believe Jerry is planning to record audio, and he will probably use mics.
Thanks for asking. We've pulled out all the stops for this show. You won't believe some of the things we have done this year. Definitely "Raisin' the bar".
I hope everyone will plan to come early and stay late.

Bobby and Rich-
You guys are to be commended, along with the great members of the CISGA. (How do you pronounce that?)
Anyway, I just cut a promo for SteelRadio.com at Michael Scott's request, advertising your Jam at the Par-A-Dice Casino Hotel Ballroom on the 26th of June. I'll do my best to get to East Peoria.
Heck, I figure if Bobby can make the trip to Gulfport, I can make it Peoria.
Thanks for the kind plug on the website, Bobby. My wife and I are trying to have a fun line of souvenirs for players and fans alike.
Look forward to seeing you this coming weekend in Gulfport.
By the way, check out SteelRadio.com as they have started airing a weekly Steel Guitar Calendar update that I put together. You can also find out about other shows around the world at www.steelguitarshows.com

Jeff...Sure hope you can make it up to Peoria. Looking forward to meeting and visiting with you guys.

Billy...Yep Bobby nailed it! Planning on having video and audio of the show this year. Will be contacting each player for their permission to have video of their sets done and also finding out who will allow their playing to go out on Steelradio. Gonna be a great show Folks.

Just heard from some nice folks from Michigan who are coming in for the show. Hope everyone shows up in E Peoria, Il on June 26!

We have had several people contacting us about deals on rooms for the show. We hadn't had much interest so we had not really been pushing this. Here is what Bobby Duncan said about the rooms...

"As for the rooms, they quoted me a rate of $95, (may have been $99) I think, mostly because it's on a weekend, and of course that's when their the busiest. (Supply & Demand ya know) I do have someone working on it to see if we can do a little better than that but haven't heard back yet. I went ahead and blocked off 10 rooms at that rate. We weren't getting much interest in the rooms at all till just recently. There's a Hamptom Inn right next door, but seems like Rich checked that and the rate wasn't much better. I'm out of town till June 8th, but will be knocking on doors when I get back to follow up on that rate, and Rich and I will let everybody know.
Might not be a bad idea to go ahead and make a reservation at the rate we have until I can find out something. If we do any good, I'll have them make the change then.
I guess the best way to make that reservation, if you want it, would be thru me. I can send an email and take care of that for you. Let me know your room preferences. If you call the Hotel, I'm not sure if they'd know about the block of rooms for CISGA or not."

You can contact Bobby at duncanbobby@hotmail.com

Thanks all

This will be so great, with Steel Radio broadcasting all over the world. It will probably be the largest audience that a lot of us steel players have played for. I can't speak for all of the guys and ladies playing (I hear Chrissy .... ) anyway hopefully we will have a great time and will be great to have Don Curtis a great player, instructor here playing and Doug Jernigan from Nashville---great speed picker, super c6th player and e9th also.

We're in the big room this year at the Paradise hotel I hear. Someone said seating capacity 700 people. I bet we fill it.

We're all woodshedding.....

Yep, Gary, I'm getting all the charts in tip top shape for everyone in the staff band too so we can keep up with you steel players and make you sound as good as possible, hopefully. Let's not forget Russ Wever, playing a set on steel and also laying part of the foundation on Bass. Him alone will keep us all on our toes. The lineup is just unreal - can't wait to hear everyone. I know Rich and the gang have some surprises up their sleeves too, so that'll be fun. Only two weeks left now - can you believe it?!

To everyone who goes to Scotty's ISGC every year - you may as well start putting this one on your yearly calendar too, because it's just getting better and better. If you can make it this year even, you won't regret it. And if you can make whatever trip it is for you to get to St. Louis, you can make this one too....it isn't THAT far from St. Louis, really.

How can you pass up another great opportunity to hear Doug Jernigan, Don E. Curtis, Russ Wever, and so many other great local steel playing talent all in one room in one day?! Friends of steel guitar, Fellowship, and Food. Can't beat that. SUNDAY JUNE 26, at the Par-a-dice Hotel Ballroom in East Peoria. For more info click on the following link. http://www.takeoff.to/steeljam We've got our own little Central Illinois Steel Guitar Associaion (CISGA) forum on there too, so feel free to check in and say hello!

Hope to see y'all there in Peoria, Sun. June 26th.

Corson Music will have a booth full of new and used gear, instruction material and accessories!! New steels from GFI, a couple of used steels too, lots of used amps, efx, etc. I don't wanna take any of this stuff back to the store, so it will all be priced to sell!! Stop by the booth and say Hi!

Just received an E-Mail from Darrin Hamilton depicting proposals for our program for CISGA's STEEL JAM 2005! The printed program looks great. they will be available at the door for $100.00 ea. (definately just KIDDING), BUT, whatever the price, it will be worth it.
As with any program bought for any show of this type, you can tell the players, and keep track of the schedule as the show procedes.
I am so excited to be a part of this endevor, and honored to be a member of the board, AND the co-EMCEE, with my good friend
RICH MOUNCE, plus the fact, that they are going to allow me to play on our first BIG show!
I would also like to welcome my friends from Iowa, and Wisconsin, (Dale Thomas, and Mark Krutsky, respectively), to our "little corner of the world, and ask you to treat them as they have treated me (like Royalty) in their respective states.
There is no way I can express my excitement waiting for this fantastic event, especially since Hall of Famer DOUG JERNIGAN will be performing-(Please play "Buttons And Bows") and also be conducting a learning seminar the Saturday before the show.
It's been hard for me to sleep, lately, just anticipating this show!
CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

Gary...It would be great if we pack the place. I am sure hoping we do.

Chrissy...You nailed it all on the head! I don't think you will find a show to have any more fun than what we have planned in E Peoria on the 26th. Hope everyone comes out and enjoys some great steel guitar playing.

Dyke...We feel very fortunate to have Corson Music involved with Steel Jam 05. Anyone in the market for anything connected with steel guitar needs to meet the great folks at Corson Music! Dyke also forgot to mention he will be playing a set on Steel Jam 05 also! YEAH....

Dino...The programs will be $2.00 but I get your drift...hehehe....It will again be my pleasure to share the MC duties with you and who knows we may even be able to slip a vocal or two in sometime during the day...LOL...

Hey,
We've got Tim Harr on Guitar, and Jimmy Willis on Drums filling in for us tonight at the Prime Time Country Opry in Stanford. Ought to be a red-letter night, and I'm really looking forward to it. We're all planning to head over to the VFW in Bloomington after the show to catch Rich and Donny and the Country Classics before they shut down.

Only 2 more weeks till the CISGA show, and everyone is really pumped. Thinking about throwing together a "pre-show" jam somewhere in town the night before if we can swing something. It'll be kindof a last minute throw-together deal, IF we can work it out, so ya'll be watching for details.

Spoke to Russ Wever last night and he is chomping at the bits for the show on the 26th! Looking forward to seeing and hearing Russ and of course Don E Curtis and all the guys at the June 26th show in E Peoria, Il. And of course the great DOUG JERNIGAN headlining the show. We are "RAISING THE BAR" on this show! Be sure to make your plans and be at "STeel Jam 05"...

Any of our friends coming in from the West of Peoria don't forget that the I-74 Illinois River bridge is closed until Aug so we suggest you taking I-474 to Rt 116 and follow that through Peoria to E Peoria and right to the Par A Dice Hotel. Traffic shouldn't be a factor on Sun.
