The latest pix of my Stringmaster D-6 in action on Beale Street, Memphis in the International Blues Challenge...it helped take our band to the Semi-finals. Good times. With the Stringmaster and my Strat into a Super Reverb, I was having the time of my life!!!
What lies beneath...

Nothing like some lacquer thinner to clear things up. This is dated 6/60 in both pan cavities, and now for re-finishing and parts work. This forum has been invaluable to help research the Stringmaster, unbelievable amount of information - hats off to you guys for keeping' it alive! Mark

Still loving my '53 D-8 serial # 0069...signed by Freddie T. Sure finish is not original (its Tru-Oil now) but THE SOUNDS...perfect.

Ron...I think the 6 string version was a special order only...8 & 10 strings were the line. I would think that any triple or quad 6s would have been by special order only then.
Now....has anybody ever seen or heard of a triple-6, or a quad-6...?
And....has anyone ever seen a 6/8 string combo...did they ever do that with the Stringmaster????

Bump...to see if there are any new Stringmaster "Care Takers" out there...I heard someone say we don't own instruments like these, we are simply Care Takers for a while....

I have a mid 50's Stringmaster Quad. I'll try and get some photos up here shortly.

I just became a T-8 'care taker'. Haven't checked on the manufacture date yet. I'm also not sure whether or not this is the original finish. Anyone able to make any guesses from the photo?

Looks right to me. I've seen examples of the darker finish ranging from pale and darker around the edges to almost black. I've also owned several of the later ones that actually were black.
Did anybody notice in the catalog shots from the '70s, that there were two different decal styles in the same photo. "Spaghetti" and the later version...kind of odd.

I have 3 Stringmasters: a medium scale D8 I use most often (it's going to Hawaii with me on Tuesday), a short scale Deluxe 8 I use for casual gigs and jams, and a medium scale T8 I just bought from Mike Perlowin. I love the sound!

My regular gig guitar is a blonde 1961 D-8 Fender Stringmaster (24 1/2" scale), but I also have a blonde 60's-era single-8 Deluxe, and a customized triple neck - 8-8-10, which I am told was played by a guy for 13 years in the Polynesian Village at Disneyworld....! Check it out:

Here is my blonde darling, 1955 D-8, short scale. Until last year I wasn't even interested in non pedal steel guitar, now I'm a Stringmaster addict. I know she has seen better days, but sounds incredible, especially after I changed to slightly heavier strings, I guess that helps a lot on the short scale.
