Like he was to so many others, Buddy was a larger-than-life super musician who provided countless hours of awe inspiring playing. Few reach his level of peer respect and admiration. I'm sure he'll be just as amazing in this next chapter of his adventure.
Blessings and peace to his family and friends,
Mike

I didn't know Buddy yet my heart goes out to Kaylee, the family, friends, and all of Buddy's fans.
Buddy and Ralph Mooney are the two steelers that I can listen to incessantly. Buddy was unparalleled in many ways, IMHO. The word GREAT might be the most indiscreet adjective used today. It certainly applies to Buddy. That little smile tucked in the corner of his mouth told us he knew that too in a humble way. He will be remembered and deeply missed.

I never knew Buddy personally, but I've talked to a couple of friends who did, and the affection and admiration for him was evident. Obviously he was not only a great player and teacher, but a great person.
My condolences to the family.

It was with the saddest of broken hearts that I had to let you know that last night I lost the love of my life, my husband, my almost constant companion for 34 yrs. My comfort is that he was saved and I know he's with the Lord, waiting until I join him in
Heaven where we'll never be separated again. We spent more time together than any couple I've known. I met him while taking steel lessons so we shared the love of the beautiful instrument and I fully understood that you don't just play steel, you live it. We traveled to work together since he taught and I took care of the business part. He played jobs every weekend and did some recording --he always said
he would never go to a job unless I went with him--he never did. Even our time off was spent together. We bass fished as ofter as possible and he taught me to golf so we could share that also. We were together for everything for 34 yrs. Tonight I am so desparately alone.
Your praise and love and appreciation of Buddy helps ease my heartache.

As I've said before about guys like Buddy, from the lives and legacies of some are born renewed purpose in others. I will be playing my first official gig on the psg this Friday and will be telling the audience of the enormous inspiration I've been filled with from listening to and watching Buddy, even though I never had the chance to meet him. My performance will be dedicated to his memory. My heart goes to Kay Lee and the rest of the Charleton family.

In the early 70's, we had Ernest Tubb and the Troubadours at our show in Marianna, Ar. We enjoyed playing with them on 3 different occasions, always remember Buddy for being such a great picker and person. He will be missed very much.
May God hold you in his loving arms of comfort in your time of mourning.

Kay Lee,
Our hearts go out to you at this sad time, but your words gave me such joy. In your post you said that Buddy was saved...and you know you'll join him again in heaven. What a treasure we have to know the Lord and have the hope of His soon return! Buddy was my first teacher, although I never met him. I had several records of his playing and day after day I tried to learn from this great musician! May the Lord hold you close and strengthen you as only He can do!!

Kay Lee, thank you for sharing that Buddy was saved. I am so thankful to know this. I am so sorry for your loss. From what I have read in this thread Buddy did everything right and had a great life. I am glad that I got to meet him and stand beside the bandstand one night and watch him play for about three hours. He was for sure one of the great players. I wish I could have lived closer to him.

Kay Lee, that was an achingly beautiful message, my heart and soul goes out to you. A love as true and special as what you and Buddy shared is so rare, but your example is every bit as inspiring as the personality-infused musical legacy he has left us.
I can assuredly speak for my musical partner Russ Blake in expressing just how much the Buddy/Leon duo means to us, every passage we play, be it together or separately, is a reflection of us reaching to touch the star that is their stellar work together.
Bless you, and bless Buddy.
Ian

Such touch. Such tone. Such taste.
In my list of favorite steel players, Buddy was at the top. Everytime I heard E.T. say "Now Buddy", it was Buddy Charleton's playing that I liked the most...not that other Buddy character
The man was a legend and inspired so many folks. We lost a legend!!!
