How about the ladies of steel? Owana Salazar, for starters. She puts on a pretty nice show - mostly kiho`alu - and always good when she comes to Seattle.

Bob Dunn, Aubrey Ghent, Derick Campbell and Freddie Roulette come to mind. Perhaps Steve Howe as well, for bringing the instrument to the ear of the infidel?

Also, many of the early psg players started out on non pedal guitars and were terrific non pedal players. Buddy Emmons is an excellent example. 4 Wheel Drive is really something to hear.
This is true that Four Wheel Drive is remarkable, but it is important to note that it was played with pedals.

I knew somebody would mention that. It sounded to me, though like most, if not all of the single string work was done without the aid of pedals. If they were used in those sections, he did an amazing job of hiding most of it. And the single string stuff is what I was refering to.

The first 16 bars of the Four Wheel Drive solo are played with pedals (some of which you can't play exactly the same without pedals) and then the pedals are used sporadically. Lots of great stuff in there--enough to make an instructional DVD with.
