I was told by a pro that I respect to quit worrying about getting my ultimate on the first try. Just get a decent guitar at a decent price and get picking!

He said "you haven't got a clue what you will like in a year or two; how could you?"

I think that's good advice. He also said avoid old Sho Buds because of the pot metal and other maintenance issues.
