I spoke to (dobro player, among other things) David Bromberg on the phone once concerning a long-gone American fiddle maker--does that count?
When I mentioned his playing and touring days the conversation ended pretty quickly.

The U S Post Office delivered an autograph version of the PIC below, to a steel player. A steel player with a name, a name of which I won't mention. I suspect his name is indeed a "name" too, but it don't matter. The fact is, I have not heard word one back, he is pissed? Maybe this gem of a PIC has been posted inside a convenient necessary room, for added movement.hahah

Few people in the music business realized what a truly wonderful and caring person JERRY BYRD was. Not only was his music all top drawer but his correspondence with his fans had to be some of the most sincere and encouraging pieces I've ever seen.
JERRY saw to it that he personally responded to each and every one........no private secretary to handle correspondence for JERRY BYRD. (Some 600 letters per year!)
If you have some great letters from Mr. BYRD, that you'd care to share with other Jerry Byrd fans around the world via the JERRY BYRD Fan Club site, send me a copy and a note giving me permission to share them with others at large. Okay.

I have corresponded with several famous steel players. I have been a working musician for more years than I care to mention. The one steel player that I made contact with that was a real treat was Herby Wallace. On or about June 12 of 2008 I suffered a light stroke. I did have some problems at first recovering my playing ability but owing all my thanks to God and my will to recover I am now playing once again. Back to the original story I called Herby just to ask him a few questions about his medical condition and how he overcame the problem. At the time I called he wasn't at home but when he returned he returned my call. The gentleman talked to me for about one and one half hours. I will hive to say this Mr. Wallace was a true gentleman and answered all of the questions I had. Herby if you read this I want to say you are a perfect gentleman and one of the very people that gives steel guitarist a good name.
