I wear boots 95% of the time,but need the pointed toes when I play my Bud as the round toes catch too many pedals. Mine are black because we all know steel players with black boots sound the best. 
It really helps if your feet are size six. My thirteens don't do well with boots. I like the K-Mart or Walmart moccasins...at $ 9.95
