Tommy,

We sure would like to be there for that great line-up, but our daughter's husband is still in Afghanistan and, since our daughter works full time, Laurie and I have to be here to watch over the grandkids.

Bill, tell Betty and the rest of the gang "Hi" for us. Until we can make it to one of your shows, here is a piece "in absentia."

GOOD NEWS! Just confirmed Hank Corwin to be on our program on 21 Feb. 2009. What a way to start off this new year with one of the very best. Herby Wallace and Hank Corwin will certainely up the standards. And our ole (no "d" allowed) Buck Grantham tops the list also.
I am working on the schedule now. Will post it later this week. We do have a full compliment of great players to give Mitsuo Fujii and Dewitt Scott a proper welcome here in the DEEP SOUTH. Thanks to all you guys for all this wonderful support. More later.
Show is really shaping up with our Miss "Mini Minnie" Pearl flying in from Texas.
Bob Saxton is undergoing surgery today. Please send up a few prayers for his complete recovery. When I get updated on his status I will insert it in the proper place on this forum.

Thanks Royce. Been waiting to hear from you. Really glad to have you on this show as all enjoy your playing and especially me!
Cayla, so good to be able to see you again. Hope you will allow me to play "America, The Beautiful" softly behind your recitation to honor our country. You will get everyone's attention with that phase of your program. Makes us all proud of you so very much.
Hank Corwin will be opening with his outstanding rendition of our National Anthem. Later on in the program, Hank and Ronnie Miley will give us a solid hour of some twin steel music. Really looking forward to this. Romeo Sullivan will have his choice of steel players for his 30 min. program also. And then along comes Ellis Olsen with some of the best good ole country songs ever. Really going to be a full program with lots of food and steaks again that evening.
Still working on the Friday nite frolic and will let you all know the status of that soon, hopefully tomorrow. Not enough room at our house anymore the way this thing keeps growing. Proud of all you guys for all the wonderful support.

Goodmorning Mr. Smooth, Bill Thank you for your amp settings, as you know i have been called on by several bands lately to do shows with them. this month i have performed five shows in different arena's. my tone on my guitar im told is excellent. however i was not satisfied with my overall sound and the projection of the music carried for a long distance. this weekend playing at a large auditorium
with Dennis Williams and his Jubilee express band i used the settings the way you recommended to me. Several Musicians came up to me after the show and complemented my steel guitar ride/solo's. The sound was tremendous. Now folks i can't give those settings out, Im sure mr bill will share them with you. Mr. Bill will be playing at the Deep South Steel Guitar show On Dedeaux Road in Gulfport Mississippi Feb 21st. Everyone Welcome

Sincerely;

R J Buras

R.J., glad you liked the amp settings. I will share all I know with anyone interested. Just contact me.
More good news for our 21 Feb show!
Gordon Dodson called me this week. He is bringing his 11 year old (YOUNG, in this case) Jean Kendall Dodson. She will play steel with Gordon during his program. (Everywhere Gordon plays we all can hear Julian Tharpe on stage). Gordon is just that good folks and he has been teaching Jean. This will be so good to see this talented young girl on her steel.
And another young talent in Cayla Ann Kelton will bring alive the memories we all love of Minnie Pearl. Cayla's presentation as "Miss Mini Minnie" gets better all the time and this talent of hers has put her in two Hollywood movies. We are so proud of her and all the talent in her family.
More later this week. Working on the schedule now...Have a really full line up of very fine players from Barney Miller, Herby Wallace, Tony Lane, Ronnie Miley, Hank Corwin and many more. Ben O'Dell and Ellis Olsen will work hard to keep us all in line.
Bob Saxton is recovering from his surgery just fine and is now at home in Laurel. Good news there.
Hank Corwin will open our program with his fabulous rendition of our National Anthem. Later in the afternoon Hank and Ronnie Miley will give us a dual steel program. Can't wait for that! And our French connection with R.J. and Bert Courrege will be in house too. Much more going on.
I will be very proud to play "America the Beautiful" during Cayla's recitation about our beloved country.
Thanks Cayla.

Very Happy Ah Man.............

That makes me smile all over my face, everytime I hear that name. "RONNIE MILEY". [u]WHAT A PICKER
. I saw Ronnie sitting in the crowd a while back, but he had "LEFT THE BUILDING" before I could get off and greet him. I've had the pleasure of working the stage with Ronnie, during several John Hughey shows.... BACK-AIR on drums,, then one time on guitar. BOOF-UF-UM he was, hammer down !!!!!

Ain't no tellin what's gonna happen when you put him up there on steel,,with Hank Corwin. WOW !!!!!! That's really gonna be a treat.

I really thank you Billy for the duties of "KEEPIN EVERYBODY IN LINE", you've so graciously [passed down) to Ellis and myself. HOW YOU DO DAT ???? Ells, I guess we'd better git with Wayne Goff for some last minute instructions. He knows sumpin bout that bossin stuff.

Thanks for the photos, R'ah. J. That shore is a purty youngun you got there.

Sure hope Bob Saxton is all fixed up and ready for the show. Glad to hear he is doing better and continues to do so.

I'll jumpin here every now and then, just to keep the water mud-ded up. Ya'll tell everybody you know about the up-comin show. It's gonna be a real whing-Dinger and GOOD-UN !!!!!

I'm still gonna try and make the Fulton show with Jim Parker,(see his post), up in Fulton Mississippi on the 31th.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the show. Keep-um coming Billy !!!

My pc is acting up again. Sorry for the double posting. Here it is now Ben--
CORKY TITTLE will be in house to assist Wayne in keeping us all straight and on the right beat.
Getting better musically all the time folks. We all have heard Corky on a lot of sessions and those TV shows with Hank and Jim Ed Brown and much more. Now he will be on our stage right here in Gulfport, Ms.
A major talent faucet has been turned on and it is pouring all over us here at DSSG. Pretty neat. Thanks to all.
