Personally, I'd avoid band names based on puns. Since you're a trad country band, how about something like "Lead Singer Name and the Adjective Boys"

ex: Merle and the Straight-up Boys

I think anagrams are interesting. If you use an anagram generator on the net, punch in the bandleader's name or all the band members first names, etc, it will give you hundreds of possible combinations, all very original sounding.
Sometimes humorous and appropriate as well.

For instance:

Steel Guitar Forum = Multistage Furore

b0b might agree. Perhaps he might prefer:
Frigate Tremulous
