Hi Norris: Oh yes, you are going to love that thing when you get it. Chuck has done a beautiful job on the color's, and it is flawless. As a matter of fact, I liked it so well that he's doing the same colors on an old Peavey guitar for me. I love the way the dark brown blends into the yellowish color in the middle. Believe me, it will stand out. (By the way, I did say "yellow-ish". It's not really yellow, it's more of a gold tone with, Oh hell, you'll love it...)

And by the way; That is one great piece of art you did there.

Peace, Fred

Norris,I will take some today when I get my guitar home.My guitar originaly had different changers [Flynn?I bought my guitar from Billy Tam in Baton Rouge.Chuck told me that he had a new changer system so I had him install them, when you see the pics of my changer you will notice that my nylon tuners are set-in a little deeper than on other guitars which turned out to be a good thing in case some knucklehead walks by while I've got my tuning wrench in.Stu ;-)

So Fred does that mean you wondered over and took a look ? I kinda thought it may have more of a gold look so he could sunburst in a ligher color in the center so it could go out darker . I have refinshed number of guitars and thats what I would do.
You'll have to send me a picture of your guitar when he gets it done. that ought to look cool. May be I should strip down one of mine and redo it to match. Wouldn't that be a hoot
thats for the complement on my baby chevy. I got silly stuff like that all over the house.

Hey Norris, I just got home from spending the day over at Chuck's, and I gotta tell you, (all) Chuck is a human dynamo, he just goes, and goes, and goes.. Your guitar is exactly as you described as far as the color. I will send you a pic of my Guitar whenever he get's to it, and it's finished.

Ok everybody, I want you to take a look at this one. It's probably 2 years old and belongs to Chuck's neighbor, Bill Baily. This is just beautiful..
Well, I'm trying to get the photo to load..? Well, for some reason the photo won't upload. I'll try later.

Chuck's Desert Rose Steels

Post by Bill Bailey »

:D
Rick,
Thanks for trying to send pics of my Desert Rose Tiger D-10. I will jump in here and add a few comments from my heart. I have known Chuck for nearly two years. He moved into my neighborhood and lives a half block from my garage door. Chuck is a fun cat be be around and I have spent many hours in his shop watching him build one guitar after another. What Rick said about him being a real tireless builder is the truth. I am amazed at how he is always upbeat, happy and positive. I call him the mad scientist of steel because he is always coming up with ideas to try and improve his steels. I love my Desert Rose and recently had the pleasure of listening to a Cat from Las Vegas named Tommy Wayne play my steel for at least two hours while decideing to purchase my Webb amp I had for sale on this forum. Tommy loved my steel and was amazed at the tone and ease of playability of my steel. He wanted to meet Chuck, so I took him over to Chucks shop at around 10:00 PM and chuck was still at it building another steel. Chuck took time to meet him and show his shop to Tommy. I enjoyed listening to the two of them discussing steels. Tommy told me he plans on having Chuck build him a steel. Tommy is currently playing one of the most highly desired steels known to us. Thanks for listening folks,

You know guys this just gets better and better. This reminds me of guys that knew Shot Jackson that would go over to his shop and watch him build ShoBuds.
As any one knows that has worked with stains and clear Lacquer finish's the time it takes and the care you have to put in doing it can be unreal. I have done a lot of it and if can go wrong it will.I guess thats why most builders charge $700.00 to a $1000.00 more for it. To see guys like Chuck and Shot that stand their ground on it is truly admirable quality. To see the wood grains come alive is like thanking the old tree that made it possible for all the music it gives you.
Keep the pictures comming. Maybe I should start another post and have the guys post their D.R. pictures here. Could be fun to see all of Chucks work in one spot.
Very pretty Bill

Fred,it appears that your changer is one solid piece with the neck.Is the entire assembly aluminum now?

Hi Lonnie. No, I know it looks like it but all the pieces are seperate. Now this should open up a whole new topic. I prefer the aluminum neck over the solid wood, because I ( "I" ) think it sounds better. To me it gives it more resinance..? I have one of the few Desert Rose's with the aluminum neck.

My guitar has no provisions for an allen key to make adjustments on the split tuning. So it would appear that there are two different changers designs.

I must have taken a stupid pill this morning. I thought you meant two different changers on my guitar. Now I understand what you are saying. I can see that Stu's has the adjustment screws also. Actually there is only one screw in there, and it's on the fifth string from the bottom. If you have any mechanical abilities, you can do it yourself. Get a one inch long set screw, 6-32 thread, drill the hole, tap it and put in the screw. This can be done right on the guitar. The hardest part is drilling the hole nice and straight, and on target..
