As to the blue boots, I am going to say they are Buddy Cages though I seem to recall his were more of a turquoise blue.

Throughout the 70's I wore custom made Luccheses, with a roping heel and the pointiest toes they had. Somehow they worked well. Now, I couldn't fathom playing in them. I am 6'4" with a 35" inseam....my legs are long and even with a 2inch overheight guitar, my left knee just touches my vertical lever.

I road race cars...and what I wear mostly now are nomex racing shoes. Great feel under the feet, and if the licks are too hot, my feet won't get scorched! If I have to wear something different, it's a topsiders kinda thing. i can't even fit under the lever with athletic shoes any longer

Stephen, I was thinking Cage too... but then I thought of Jimmy Day and the Blue Darlin' so I used up my guess on JD altho' it was wrong

About boots, sometimes the long pointed toes can cause interference with the pedal rods. Likewise, the large rounded toes on most athletic and walking type shoes can cause one to get a piece of an adjacent pedal that wasn't intended.

I think it's just a matter of adjusting the position of your foot relative to whatever footwear you happen to have on.

Whatever works tho. Fashion and style be damned, I suppose, if you can play better and be more comfortable in a specific type.

Dennis, those are my boots. We had them go with our blue rinestone suits. Where did you get that picture? I would sure like to have them back.I don't remember what I did with them.

Tom, I found the image on the web when doing a search for "Tom Brumley" awhile back. Don't remember exactly where it was. If I was to ever get my hands on them I would certainly let you have them back. (In exchange for your autograph on my steel!)

Tom, your great playing with the Buckaroos back in the 60's was the inspiration for my taking up pedal steel. I bet I'm not the only one!

I find that if my shoe fits tight across the ball of my foot there is less ankle twist needed when rocking on and off the A and B pedals. But I have bunions and don't like to walk around in tight fitting shoes. So I wear walking shoes with velcro closure straps. When I sit down to play, I tighten up the straps. When I'm done, I loosen them up for comfort.

I like to play in the thinnest rubber soled dress shoes I can find. I have to be able to feel the pedals. The fellow who said boat shoes gave me an idea.

Well, I don't mean to get off topic, but all this makes me want to get a pair of cowboy boots...actually, I've been wanting to get some cowboy boots for a while. But, I know nothing about boots, so what is a good make for under $200...maybe closer to $100? I wish I lived in Texas, but there is a BootBarn in Los Alamitos close to where I live.....is that place okay for boots?

I wore a dressy pair of Tony Lama's for a lot of years. They were worn just for gigs (and one marriage) so they lasted a long time. Had nice thin soles, almost like wearing moccasins, and were comfortable for 4 hrs of standing...

They never did learn "Pedal Patter" though. Maybe if I had Tom's blue pair.....

Boulets are good boots, I wore them a lot when I lived in BC. However, (and I may be wrong) I think they are only available in Canada....
