"Think nothing of it" doesn't mean "stop thinking about anything". It means "do not think about 'it' (whatever the pronoun refers to)". It's yet another meaning of nothing: the absence of a particular thing (thoughts about 'it').

We say that an empty glass has nothing in it, when in fact it's filled with air. We "think nothing of it".

Or nothing

This thread is the black hole in the Forum, and b0b himself has got drawn into it. This could be the beginning of the end.

Or it could be nothing.

I think it is nothing. B0b probably has a safety net or something.

Does not exist.

Nothing does not exist. It is a concept our brain uses. It gives us a way to speak to convey a thought. It (the concept) can be used as a pronoun, adjective or an adverb. The subject of this post is nothing. There is no such thing as zero or nothing. There is no such thing as the absence of everything. Reduce a sphere to an infinite point but the laws of physics still exist there. Why? Why? Why? GO TO BED! >:-)

The ancients didn't even have the number 0, which we call zero. To them, numbers were to count things, not to represent the absence of anything to count. If there was nothing to count you didn't need a number. :\

It's said that some tribes only had three numbers: one, two and several. :\ :whoa:

They could not have spelled my name then.

True

b0b..........true. They would have had nothing for and middle letter.

disclaimer: Judging by some of the post on this topic of nothing I fear some folks may not get it!

What's there to get?

Tao could be nothing.

It's not a valid problem. Bobby Lee decided to introduce the zero into his nom-de-plume on this site, so his objection to its use is of his own seeking.

I was spelling my name b0b with a zero for more than a decade before creating the Forum, Alan. :aside:

Zero is not nothing.

That's what I meant! :x

Why? It makes no sense to me. Bobby Lee is a perfectly good name. Insisting that people use the totally-unpronouncable zero in your name makes no sense whatseoever, unless it was some way of people bowing down to your own particular indiosincracy. :\

You've created a great resource here for steel guitarists to get together, which was not available before you created it. Now come out of the closet. You're not b0b, you're Bobby Lee. It's something that you should be proud of, not frowned upon.

There is nothing wrong with B0b's name...

Bee Zed Bee Lee...

When I first started BBSing in the early '80s, I was asked for a "handle". I wanted "Bob", but it was already taken on most BBSs, so I chose b0b instead. Later, when I decided to register a domain name, bob.com was already taken by Microsoft Bob (remember that?), so I registered b0b.com instead.

My use of '0' in my name has nothing to do with the topic - 'nothing'.

So, the epicenter of nothing has been hiding in plain sight in the middle of b0b's name, this whole time?

Well played, sir...well played.

Exactly.   But it makes a great button to tease with when there's nothing else to write about. ;-)

Alan, you'd argue about nothing.

You noticed. And,of course, that goes for everyone else who has posted over the past 153 pages. This is, after all, an argument about nothing.

No

No Alan. You posted mostly about nonsense. Many of us posted about NOTHING.
Big difference.

Actually, if you go back to the beginning, I was the one who went through all the legitimate discussions of nothing and zero, going through all the mathematical, logical and linguistic meanings, and even referring to parallels in other languages. It only got silly about a hundred pages ago. ;-)

Not at all. Gordon and I both mentioned "nothing".
It's absolutely impossible to go off topic in this discussion by posting anything that has nothing to do with the topic.
