I believe it came with one or two, now has 4 courtesy of Lynn Stafford, done with your parts. The black looks original. Ever see a black one?

Single 12 universal mahogany colour 6 pedals 4 levers serial number. 18079

Question about a Sho-Bud Po I.
I have bought this instrument yesterday and there is one thing I do not understand.
The Model is a 6148 and it says that this is a 3 + 2.
This one has 3 + 4. Serial nummer is #5382
It is a blond guitar.

I just bought a Sho-Bud 6139 blond serial number 2165.

My guess it is a 1972 based on other serial numbers dated so far.

I am fairly disappointed that an exact date can't be found for my two Sho~Bud steels. They are both from the 7000s.

My latest is # 7962 and is a D-10 The Professional in a red-brown lacquer. It has wide pedals and is rack and barrel. Looks like it must be from late 1970 or very early 1971.

My other is # 7035. It has the letters MO or MC before the 7035. It is probably a late 1966. Crossover model with 6 and 1, rack and barrel. 23 inch scale.

I will add a link to the thread about the guitar. Not included in the thread is the info Bobbe Seymour told me on the phone which agrees with Coop about the guitar being from October or November of 1966. He thought that the Jacksons put it together and showed it to the Baldwin folks as an example of what they were agreeing to distribute. He also said that there were around 20 guitars built with the 23 inch scale length.

That's a later '60s Baldwin era guitar. It's basically a 6139, though I'm not sure how far back that model numbering goes. The changer is the same as was used in the D-10 crossover models of that era. There was an earlier variation of the crossover that had a roller bridge and a shorter scale like the one Rick mentioned above. This changer was their first 'modern' all pull system.

There doesn't seem to be much in the way of original records to get a precise chronology, but the 7000s seem to have started around '66, they later did a reset of the serial number sequence to 1001 in March of '71, then skipped over those numbers 7001-8109 that had already been used in January '75, so both guitar #8109 and #1001 would have been built in March '71.

If you assumed that number sequence represents ~April '66 - Mar '71 and divide it by that time frame (1108 guitars/~60 months) that would be about 18.5 guitars per month on average. That would put your guitar #7655 around Feb/Mar '69. That's pretty un-scientific, but a reasonable guess until someone comes up with more precise info.

I have a D-10 Sho Bud pro 11 (serial no. 6177)that has a 24-1/2" scale. It plays good now on the E9 neck but what I like about it is the tone. It has a monster tone like I have not seen before. I have three Emmons including one push pull and I think it has as good or maybe even better tone than the push pull. I called David Jackson and we talked about this guitar. He said they built a few of these, but didn't build many because of string breakage. This guitar actually breaks very few strings and has a short gumby key head. I think I have seen another one for sale on the forum a few years ago. I would be interested if anyone has any information about these guitars.

I have a Pro II. The model is 6155; Serial number 5346.

It is a D-10 with 2 tear drop knee levers and 8 wide pedals. The changer is a "one raise and one lower" set up and the pedal tuning is done using a hex socket key.

It is Walnut in color and has rounded front and rear top edges.

Question; I would like to get the Es on the left knee and add two more changes to the right knee. That would change the model, in theory. From a historical perspective, would an update like that diminish the instrument?

Just purchase 6139 w knobs on appron, Natural blonde finish, rpoe inlay, serial # 2748, 3/1 with rack and barrels. I think from reading the posts it is a 1972 build. would love to builder ect..Looks to be pretty original from the pics of it. thanks for any info. please add to list

Is it this guitar? That's an early/mid-60s permanent. It will likely be a big challenge to pin down the date very closely without the original paperwork. That's an extremely cool guitar, I was puzzled why he would sell her so cheap. You practically got her for free. I'm envious.

There are numerous threads on these guitars here if you do a search. There were a lot of variations in the early years.
