Actually, if you read back through all the posts, (and I would only recommend the first few), it started out as an intelligent discussion on the value zero and the absence of anything. Then it got stuck in the groove of the fact that you could use the word "nothing" as if it meant something, whereas, in fact, the word "nothing" merely means the absence of thing. Words that just describe the absence of something have no meaning other than that, and almost every posting since then has just been a play on words, usually omitting to use inverted commas around the word "nothing", which immediately creates double meanings.

This entire discussion is around double meanings.

If you are doing nothing, how do you know when you are finished?
I have stuff.
I try to make music with it.
Sometimes it works.
Sometimes it doesn't.
But I keep on trying.

zero

Post by Gordon Borland »

Because there is no such thing as zero in nature does that mean that there is no place in nature that nothing exist?

That depends on what you mean by nature. If, by nature, you mean the laws of physics, then they apply universally everywhere. If, by nature, you're referring to life, then there is nowhere in nature for nothing to exist, because in that place nature itself exists.

I just learned how to quote nothing (how to make a reply without a message).
Thanks, Gordon, tho I'm sure you'd say 'it was nothing.'

('But nothing's already replied.'
'No, that was ego.'
'Then who's on first?'
'Yes.')

It's become a machine.
It's found its driving force, in the spirit of the OP:

bOb said what he said and it was funny as hell!
Zero interpretation needed. He could make it so nothing is ever posted in this topic again. Imagine, nothing to post. Oh crud how could that be??? Now that would be something. Wait! How could nothing be something?
My MSA D10 classic is the best steel guitar ever made.
