Thanks Al! Yes, it's a 1950's English Electronics (Valco) lap steel, and the tone control is conveniently located for playing the "doo-wah" effect... using the little finger of the right hand. That sound/technique is almost lost art today, unfortunately. Thanks again.

I love this thread and I love the web site too. Have you seen the style comparison section? I'm glad its a style comparison and not a style competition because I hate contests but I love a good comparison. The hard part is figuring out who's winning this comparison. Don

I just spent a very enjoyable time familiarizing myself with the playing of several Forumites over at Tilley's site. Great stuff, people! I didn't get to hear them all yet, of course, but I'm particularly fond of the following ones I heard today:
Ken Byng, Georgia (nice touch!)
Frank Carter, Once Upon a Time in the West (gorgeous!)
Jerry Gleason, The Common Touch (that's what I call 'Acceptable Tone' from a player with an Uncommon Touch!)
Charles Tilley, I Will Always Love You (fine touch and tone!)
I look forward to going back to hear more soon.

Hi Bernie, I just listened to Bill Hatcher's song and it is totaly beautiful work. That song has been a favorite of mine ever since I first heard it played on an album by Doug Jernigan. Great job on that on Bill and keep up the great work.

Nic du Toit from South Africa posted a new song called "Oasis", a song written, I beleive by Ronnie Hinson, shortly before Kenny Hinson passed away. "Oasis" was recorded by the "New Hinsons". Nic turned it into a steel instrumental and included it in his Gospel cd, "The Lighthouse" cd. It's well worth a listen. Thanks, Mr. Tilley.......Steve
