| I admire all these great musicians; I cast my vote for Jay Dee Maness. IMO, Jay Dee and Julian in the speed picking dept., but Jay Dee's "touch" is enviable; that and the, IMO, ability to get just about anything he wants from the psg. |

A poll "everyone can enjoy?"
Well, I don't know, Joe....you might as well post a sign saying "No 'No Peddlers' Allowed". Of your ten names, only Buddy Emmons would join SGHOF members Joaquin Murphey, Tom Morrell, Jerry Byrd and Sol Hoopii on my own "favorite" short list.

So, you can't enjoy the list because your favorites aren't on it? I could only list 10 people.....and I doubt Sol Hoopi would have been garnering that many votes....no offense to you or Sol. |

That's hard to put into just one person. My playing has been effected by each and everyone of those that are on the poll. I'm sure that pretty much everyone of us can say that as well. I go for "All of the above". Plus those who aren't on the list. Scotty and B0b go along with it. Yup!!!!

How come Jerry Garcia and Robert Randolph aren't listed in the poll? Aren't they the 2 greatest steel guitarists of all time?

Well, let's see...Is it because they are not in this particular hall of fame? Or is it because they haven't spent the last 45 years trying to do what Buddy Emmons was doing in 1962? |

I think there are some who are not in the Steel Guitar Hall of Fame who should be included. These are:

Sonny Garrish

I don't necessarily disagree.....but having been a member here for a looooong time, I know that the general consensus around here is that Pete would definitely not be considered one of the top players. Not saying this is my opinion, but I knew that he really wouldn't garner that many votes.
I guess I could argue that he may have garnered some more votes that one or two of the people I had listed, but in retrospect, everything comes up 20/20!  |

| I have had the pleasure or sharing the stage with some of the best steel players in the world. John Hughey, Terry Bethel, Jimmy Crawford, Buddy Charlton, Jimmy Murphey, Bob Hempker,Hal Rugg and several more. You get the message. Each or these great players were and are super in their own styles. But when it comes to having to play all styles,and sounding like every one else, no one does it better than Bob Hempker. Bob is the very best when it comes to playing behind a singer and making the singer sound commerical. This takes a special dedication. But the steel player that entertains me most is Julian Tharpe. Julian could play by the hours and come up with something new continously. Dave Thornhill, Band Leader and lead guitarist for Loretta Lynn From 1969----1997, until I got Fired. |

This list is right on for our little steel guitar world. But out side the steel circle, the list might look like this-
Alvino Ray
Jerry Byrd
Santo and Jonny Farina
Buddy Emmons
Pete Drake
