I work full time, and do an average of two or three rehearsals a week, two or three gigs and manage to get in a recording session usually at least once or twice a month. All these dang gigs are cutting into my practice time!!

#1) I post alot, but most of my posts are the cartoons I do in the humor section.

#4) I play my steel at home since I am still learning, but I do jazz guitar gigs once in awhile. I am basically a semi-retired player at the moment.

I'm in catagory 3

I would prefer to be in catagory 2 earning enough $$$ so I don't have to be in catagory 3, or at least the FULL TIME job part of catagory 3...

I was a 3 in my guitar days...been woodshedding on steel for bit now after me hand problems, so I'll be back there soon.

Here's an odd bit of trivia. Neil Youg's Crazy Horse drummer and bassist, Ralph Molina and Billy Talbot, are both "3"'s surprisingly. when Neil's not touring with them, they're construction contractors.

I'm between 3 and 4. I practice with a group once a week, and gig anywhere from once a month to twice a week.

Kind of a 4&1/2 I guess; never played full time, but now retired from earning a living and play 3 times a week in Church.

Gene Jones-You are not "too old to cut the mustard", as far as I am concerned. Give us a couple of cups of coffee, and we can still play a few "hot licks"... Image Image

I guess I'm in #1 and 3. I'm 70, retired and play as much as I'm asked. Been learning pedal steel since 1969. Love of the sound and thrill I get when playing has never left me. I'll play as long as my Heavenly Father lets me.

My money comes about 50/50 from my part-time job and gigs. I'm trying to wean myself off the day job, but it's a glacial process. I play about 3 (sometimes 4) gigs a week, sometimes more in the summer months... I'm inching toward freedom from the day job, but it's a few (or more) years off....at least in Chicago.

I don't know where I fit in. I only play on Saturday nights but I work in my steel shop seven days a week to keep up with everything. I'm usually playing on different guitars in the shop all during the week also. I usually post something everyday or night on the forum and read the forum three or four times a day/night to keep up. I'm devoted 100% to steel players, so I don't know if I'm a 1,2 or 3! Don't matter, I can be a 1/2 if needed. Ha!

I'm a 2, and have been since 1968; with the exception of 1988-1998, when my job at the Austin Chronicle made me a 3.

I guess I would be in a 3 too, although my days are spent most of the time just like Billys above, working on steel guitars, teaching & practicing. But too tell the truth I play most of the time in chruch, which is quite rewarding. I also play a few outside gigs during the summer months. But beleive me I am a still full time steel player, thats for sure!!
