Hay ! Old buddy I own that franchise !

someone here once told me that a steel guitar can sense fear.... and now i will swear by that

i find that the more i can control my fear of a song the better i can play it.. i do believe about 90% of our limets are self imposed

I sure identify with what Pee Wee said, just try to make the singer you're working with sound good. You may not impress a Lot of people but you will surely have lot of work

I guess I don't worry because I suck at ALL categories.

I won't feel competent until I can match what I used to be able to do on guitar...which at the rate I'm going, means I would have to live another 40 years or so.

Meaning sometimes it's fun, and sometimes it's completely frustrating. Tonight was 2. Couldn't play anything, no idea why.

It's nice when I get a compliment, but it usually makes me feel like an impostor, posing as a steeler and fooling some of the people. But, I love to play anyway and don't intend to stop.

Why on earth would I want to dwell on my limitations, unless I was seeking a way to improve? Limitations are for people without imagination, or too much time on their hands. My grandmother bought a new sewing machine when she was about 75, and decided to take a sewing class at the local community college. Never mind that she'd been making and clothes out of necessity for most of those years. Needless to say, after a couple of weeks, the instructor was asking my Grandma questions! She died many years ago, at age 89, still sewing, and never knowing that she had limitations.
And I KNOW she has none today!

Pretty interesting.. I see a few different theories forming..

Those that say we are only limited by our own minds

those that say we all have limitations-

some say we should acknowledge our inabilities, avoid them ,and concentrate on the ares we shine in

others say we should concentrate on our weak areas to where they are NO longer a problem..

I live for this stuff.. real debate... geez, no arguments yet tho'.. I must be losing it... uh oh a LIMITATION!!!... I better go woodshed!!! ..

This is a grate thread , I think it
will dispel a lot of things that the
newbe's will suffer as well as some
of us long time pickers !

I would bet the farm , that there is not one Steel player
out there that has not felt that way at one time or
another . I still do it ! I will apologize to the guys for
making a mess out of a tune at a practice & and they
say something like ! "that was grate"! do it that way the
next time , & you have no Idea what there talking about .
Or I will get something like ! "Ah ! you always looking for
compliments ! " Then the impostor mode kicks in .

My playing didn't sound right to me so I took care of the problem.... I sold my steel and quit. I figure if I can't learn to play in 20 years I need to find something else to do. The last gig I had was at a wedding. Jerry Roller had fixed me up with my dream guitar - an black formica Emmons PP D10. The guitar was superb. It sounded like a dream. The playing stunk. Oh well.
