I sure hope they vote him in, as he is very deserving of the honor. His playing is/was listened too, inspired, and influenced a bunch of us.

Sincerely,
Tommy Minniear

Anita, what I want to know is, when you call him to dinner, do you say "Dinner's ready, Sneaky", or "Dinner's ready, Pete"?

...oh, and he gets my vote, too, in case anyone's looking in.

Or does he say "Dinner's ready, Anita...."? (Which is more like the way it works around our place!)

Sneaky has been one of my musical heroes for thirty-odd years, and is deserving of any and all honours the steel guitar community can bestow.

I say "Dinner's ready Daddy!" Hhahahha!

I just received a letter from Scotty to confirm receipt of my nomination and that he will be giving it to the nominating committee at their next meeting on August 31, 2006. So the wait is on. I think I will send them a copy of this post as an addendum.
Thanks again, guys.

As a relative newbie to steel it seems to be me to be a pretty glaring ommission not to have Pete in the HoF. He was one of the few steelers I could readily identify by his style before I even took up the instrument. He probably got more of the younger crowd interested in the steel than just about anyone else I can think of.
Before joining this forum the only two pedal steelers I had ever even heard of by name were Buddy Emmons and Sneaky Pete.
Regards,
Joe

Sneaky is a totally unique player who could also fit the steel into non-country music better than anyone. He was also interesting and humble, the few times we met. I think he will get in to the SGHOF soon.

I've been wondering why he wasn't already in.

A truely one of a kind player who listened to his own voice and played it the way he thought it should be played. One of a handful (maybe only a couple others) that when you heard his playing on a recording you knew right away who it was. An amazing signature musician!! His recognition as a Hall of Fame player has been long over looked. Let them set the record straight and put Pete in the SGHF!!

I don't have a vote, but if I did I'd vote for Sneaky Pete.

I know that this has been explored a bunch of times on this forum (players like Pete not being in the hall of fame) but it surprised me (again) that he isn't already there. It seems so obvious to me. He is certainly one of the most unique voices that has ever played this instrument. His contribution is immense, his discography is second to nobody, in terms of breadth of genres and the importance of the recordings.

Who else has recorded with:

Frank Zappa
Little Feat
Stevie Wonder
The Byrds
FBB
Joe Cocker
Jackson Brown
Joni Mitchell
Yoko Ono
Fleetwood Mac
Linda Ronstadt
Gram Parsons
Little Richard
Bobby Womack
Delany and Bonnie
Billy Joel

and so many more.

Pete is on my all time favorites list, that's for sure.

Y'know what the sad thing is? Sneaky Pete should have been in the SGHF a -long- time ago. . .

The list of artists he's played with is AMAZING.

Surely, he exposed the sound of steel guitar to the most unlikely of audiences.

To name a few... The Knack!!!, Booker T. and the M.G.'s, Stevie Wonder, Sly and the Family Stone!!, Joe Cocker!!, Tom Jones, etc.

(side note: Tom Jones is cool. I don't really like his singing, but he is cool. 1). He sang "baby it's cold outside" with the beatiful, lovely, fellow Wales native and singer Cerys Matthews, on an episode of "'Later' with Jools Holland. 2). He had a really funky band in the 70's).
.
.
.
.

Back to subject:

Pete should be inducted because he had so much to do with a countless number of rock fans (and rock musicians) falling in love with the country sound, in the late sixties and early seventies.

If it weren't for Pete's playing in FBB, I would not have, at my young age, fallen in love with classic country music, (and then solo steel stuff), both of which I now love, and continue to seek out).

I would have found the music eventually perhaps, but no telling what I'd be listening to now if not for Gram Parsons and "sneaky" Pete. And I'm grateful for it.
[This message was edited by Cody Campbell on 28 November 2005 at 11:58 PM.]

[This message was edited by Cody Campbell on 29 November 2005 at 12:01 AM.]

I agree with you guys as I'm sure many do. That is why I nominated him. I think he was such an obvious choice that he was overlooked all this time. He's really blown away by all the fuss and that just makes me SMILE!

His fills and ride on FBB's "Devil in Disguise" is one of the coolest PSG parts ever. He goes from making his instrument sound like an E9 PSG (Almost more E9 than E9!), an overdriven lap style slide guitar, and a twangy Telecaster without missing a beat.
He is one of my all-time favorites.

I first bought Pete's self titled album when I was in High School along with the Burrito stuff that was available at the time.

Just got the new Burrito Deluxe CD "The Whole Enchilada" which I really like, and especially the instrumental song "Sister', real classic 'Sneaky' sound.

He gets my vote for the Hall of Fame.
