I'll be playing my dream gig this weekend -

(3) 120 minute shows, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in a smoke-free 400-seat room that is always filled to capacity. There's a good size dance-floor, but no need for bouncers or police because the folks come here just for the music and the dancing. They don't fight, and they don't overdo it on the booze.

There's a large band-room back stage filled with water, snacks, and other creature comforts just for us. We also get a steak dinner with all the trimmings every night we play, and $150/man for each show.

We have a large band. 2 lead singers - one man, and one woman. We've divided the show up evenly between them, they do nothing but all time favorite country classics, and they finish the set with well known duets from the classic country history books, then they turn it over to us to play out the last 10 minutes with instrumentals.

We have a piano player, bass, drums, rythym guitar, and 2 fiddles who only play the necessary fiddle parts, backup vocals by 2 younger female singers, and a full sound stage built-in complete with lights and a monitor engineer. All the arrangements feature the hooks and signature licks that we all love to hear and play, and each one also features two full rides. One for me, on my '74 D10 Emmons, and one for the guitar player, a life-long friend who is just a monster on Tele. The ending song has a blistering 5 minutes give-and-take between the guitar, the steel, and the piano, ending in a dramatic crescendo with the whole band taking a bow to thunderous applause and demands for encores.

oops... I think my dream is coming to an end...

yes, it is definately over.

There's a guy leaning directly on the neck of my guitar asking me what the hell kind a keyboard is that anyways? He drops his beer into my monitor, and the ashes from his cigarette fall into my pick pouch....

His girlfriend is coming to get him now, but she falls down slipping in the beer on the dance floor and starts swearing at him like a sailor...

yup, my dream gig is over for now...

Best wishes to all.!! Happy pickin.

I get to play out about once or twice a month. This weekend, however, I played for the washer and dryer in our basement...an easy gig but not so much of a challenge.

It's a fun gig - tiki bar on the beach . .
