I thought I might Find the answer to this from The RCA Album "Mr Guitar". The Album Was one of Chets earliest Productions. Don Halberstam, A reporter for the NAshville Tennessean wrote the liner notes and no mention was made of Mr Guitar except for the Album Title. So he may indeed have bestowed the title upon Himself. Anyway, no matter where it came from, it was richly deserved by him.<SMALL>I wonder if Chet Atkins granted himself the nickname "Mr. Guitar"?</SMALL>
I especially liked the CGP (Country Guitar Picker) he placed after his name in later years.
