Hey Chris Ivey:

I used several guitars recording with Gene, all D-10s. A '77 Black P/P Emmons, a '75 Rosewood P/P Emmons and the Blue ZumSteel you speak of. The first radio cut I did with the Zum was "Got No Reason Now for Goin' Home." I used that guitar on about five or six of Gene's hits after that. All those guitars had single-coils pickups. I'm on my fourth ZumSteel now (still own two) and have been very happy with all of them.

Bruce called me up to see if it was his 'baby' I had used on Got No Reason as I had gotten the guitar from him a few weeks prior to the recording date. I told him that it was and was he ever happy to hear that. I remember that conversation very well.

Thanks for the kind words Chris.

College radio made me feel cool, but Commercial radio made me feel kinda dirty. Image

Last March I had a number one song on independent internet radio for about 3 weeks. I wrote it, sang it, and played all the instruments. It was a Christian tune called "The Presence". Since the radio station gives me stats on airplay, I was able to see that thousands of unique listeners heard the song. I got well over 100 emails from folks about it. All of this was kind of neat... but the really neat thing was that I was able to glorify God while witnessing for him! Now that is what felt really cool....
