"Bright Lghts hard country Music. By moe Bandy."

That's "Soft Lights and Hard Country Music," and it's one of my favorites, too. Weldon Myrick played steel on that, as on most of Moe's great honky-tonk stuff.

For me, there's certainly no one song, but maybe 15 or 20 among all my compilation tapes that are "gems among gems."

"I think 'Hello Darlin' picks up your ears because the hook is the title, the first thing you hear, done with that distinctive baritone voice. It's a lucky/good singer/writer that can hook you with the first two notes."

Another Conway song that blows me away is "Somebody Lied." It begins, "Hello. Yeah, this is me," (spoken) followed by a bass run up to the IV chord on the piano, which just "groooooooowls." Hughey plays great backup on the bridge part, "If the rumors were true, etc. etc."

Rickey Van Shelton also recorded that song, but, for me, it doesn't measure up to Conway's version.
