I would hope so.....they DID play their own instruments after ousting the music supervisor you know. Played on just about every song on the second season of their TV show.

Please let's not even reference the musical talents of Mike Nesmith & Peter Tork and one of the best voices of the 1960s (Micky Dolenz) in the same breath as "Ashlee Simpson." That just ain't right.

Thanx for posting the audio link, by the way... I must've deserved that, some past-life transgression I spoze.

Joe I agree, I do think the Monkees were actualy very talented,
even though they started as a "manufactured act".
Which was my only reference point to A.S.

Some how I don't see missy Ashlee ever moving on to
serious music done well in her dotage...say round 29.

Artie Shaw wrote to Duke Ellington on why he was quiting the music business :

" ....A business bristling with 'names'
built solely on willingnress to cater to cheapness,
shoddiness and ignorance in mass tastes.'

A "racket ridden with every manner of vulgarity"

And we call our times progress... hmmm

Yes! I have no bananas!

And while we're on the topic, let's not forget the fans of stuff like this, for they are who put her there.
Again to quote Artie Shaw, when asked his opinions of the Jitterbugging fans:

<i>"They're Morons."

</i>-John
p.s. Artie, what will we do without you ?

I still say her daddy is a sorry excuse for a preacher! She wears more make-up than she does clothes, and he is a failure as a parent for allowing that sort of filth to prevail! I saw him on television a while back sporting his new diamond-encrusted watch to the cameras and bragging about how much "he" paid for it. Now, I seriously doubt that "he" paid for it on a meager preacher's salary. I say he pocketed a few thousand dollars of his daughter's money and went on a shopping spree. No talent, no class, no decency, and NO WAY will I ever buy one of her albums!

Still hating on the Simpsons,

Hey, Preacherman Simpson- READ THIS IF YOU'RE OUT THERE:
I Corinthians 14:40- "Let all things be done decently and in order."

Joe Simpson is a sick puppy, in my opinion. Have you heard him talk about his daughter's, er, physical attributes? Can you imagine being a man's daughter and having him describe you that way in the national media? And this guy's supposed to be a "former minister"? (That bothers me, too- you either is or you ain't.) And if it doesn't bother Jessica, it's only because the psychological damage is already done.

God help Ashlee! This is not her fault.<FONT SIZE=1 COLOR="#8e236b"><p align=CENTER>[This message was edited by Rick McDuffie on 17 January 2005 at 08:19 PM.]</p></FONT>

There is an online petition to have Ashlee Simpson stop recording, touring, modeling and performing. Last I checked it was over 44,000 signatures.

I would imagine she appreciates the publicity of the so called online petition. After all, one of the maxims of show business is there is no such thing as bad publicity. I also imagine that the petition will have no effect on her career. I do wonder why these sorts of things get under peoples skin so. It seems pretty intolerant to get all worked up about someone with no talent becoming successful in the music business. After all, it happens all the time. It seems as though some folks need to believe that the world is fair and honest when every single day we are all confronted by examples of the exact opposite. Perhaps it would be easier on the system to not let other peoples taste (or lack thereof) put such a burr under our saddles. It truly does take all kinds to make the world go around, and all the hollering and complaining and moaning will never ever change that fact. I would call a spade a spade and say that it's not the kind of entertainment I enjoy, and simply change the channel. It doesn't matter to me one whit what her father or her mother or sister of great aunts mailman has to do with anything. It is not my job to be the judge of other peoples lives. The girl is seemingly popular in a genre a music that holds very little interest to me and that is about as far as I go with it. I am sure she and all her fans would not much care for my kind of music either. I believe they are entitled to that opinion as well, and do not lose one minute of sleep over that. So sign all the petitions there are if it makes you feel better, but I doubt much is being accomplished other than elevating blood pressure.

Have a good 'un and take a deep breath and put on some Ray Price or something....

67,496 and still counting. As the starter for this topic I figured I better sign the petition instead of just complain about her singing. I did not know her dad was a minister who is trying to use his daughters so-called talent to make some money. Shame, shame, shame.

Stop complaining and accept it.The younger generation who listens to this loud noise are ruining their hearing and are tone deaf.Using those boom boxes they will lose 60% of their hearing be the time they reach their mid 30'.

I prefer Lisa Simpson. Her rendition of "God Bless the Child" is my favorite.

Tracy, I have always said with all these young people playing their loud music and hurting their ears, someone is going to make a lot of money in the hearing aid business.

I read the news article in the link and played the soundclip, yes, she's totally awful and it seems almost everyone knows it except the millions buying her records. I haven't heard any of her records but I'd bet they've put the Autotune on the "industrial-strength" setting for Ashley. After reading the article, I feel sorry for her, it's obvious her dad is a complete jerk and certainly no preacher unless it's the Church of the Almighty Dollar. He should be taken down a few levels and Ashley should find a new career, maybe someday soon she'll get tired of the boos and ridicule and stand up to her lousy excuse of a Dad. I hope so for her sake.

103310 Signatures as of right now...

To quote a more erudite man than myself:

"The music business is a cruel and shallow money trench, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free, and good men die like dogs. There's also a negative side."

now up to 103325 signatures in the time it took to cut and paste that quote. Yow.

I suspect her dad is the WORST kind of stage parent,
and has been throwing the poor girl onto stages since she was young.

Never had talent himself, got one kid moving, and now the next, hedging his bets...
Moron.

The sad news about all of this that there are actually people out there, including people in the record label, who thinks she has the talent and can sing. It sure makes me wonder about a lot of our young people today. I would think all they hear is the music and could care less that the girl cannot sing. As far as her father goes, he is a huge disappointmenat as well.
