Red Sovine's Little Rosa. It has to be done with the Italian accent, though...
"I'm 'a push'a da crowd dis way, an 'a push'a da crowd dat way...and dere...at'a ma feet, lay ma Little 'a Rosa".
That song would make an IRS auditor cry.
[This message was edited by Donny Hinson on 05 June 2003 at 06:32 PM.]

This one always went over well
SING ME BACK HOME by Merle Hagard
The warden led a prisoner down a hallway to his doom.
I stood up to say goodbye like all the rest.
And I heard him tell the warden, just before he reached my cell:
"Let my guitar playing friend do my request."
CHORUS:
"Let him sing me back home, with a song I used to hear.
"And make my old mem'ries come alive.
"And take me away and turn back the years.
"And sing me back home before I die."
I recall last Sunday morning, a choir from off the streets,
Came in to sing a few old gospel songs.
And I heard him tell the singers: "There's a song my Mama sang.
"Could I hear it once before you move along?" (Chorus)
[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 06 June 2003 at 04:26 AM.]

"IS IT REALLY OVER" by Jim Reeves
This is a song that I used to have one of my guitar players play and sing for the last song of the night, his name was Johnny Bernard and just passed away last Saturday of cancer, and when he sang a Jim Reeves song, you could close your eyes and you'd think Jim was on stage.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Play Me a Song I Can Cry To" - was recorded by Jerry Lee Lewis in late 60's. Very country, very sad.
I sat in with a band down in Dallas.
I'd been introduced as a guest.
When a little white haired man approached
the band stand,
And said, "I wonder, could you play one last request?"
CHORUS
Won't you play me a song I can cry to.
Sad songs are music to my ears.
Just play me a song I can cry to.
Play me a song that sounds like tears.
I stood by while the band started playing.
But I didn't even try to play along.
My eyes had followed him back to the corner.
Where he sat down at a table, all alone.
Then a smile slowly came across his teardrops.
And I watched as he gently bowed his head.
Just before he left this world for one
much better,
I remember what the lonely man had said.
Repeat Chorus.
John L.

There is a song about a man getting sent off to war if I remember right. At the end of the song the lady tells him" I married your best friend John." I cannot remember the artist or the title of the song but I have heard it on country radio.
