Sorry Theresa, but I'm definitely in the anti-CMT camp on this one. When I watched TNN back in the old days....... TNN would have 8 minutes of commercials and 22 minutes of programming per half hour of programming. However, I think there was more music and less commercials during the live performance portion of the Opry Show.

With the new format on CMT..... including a hell of a lot of YAKKING going on..... I bet the grand total of musical performance isn't more than the 22 minutes we got on TNN...... this new format Stinks to me... I think we ARE missing performance. I think they should go back to the old format and have the half hour of gab and the half hour of music. Get some people who know some things about country music.

I am glad we still have the Opry on TV, but it still stinks.

I think I addressed your comment by saying the audience loved her, as I did. It's great to see young teens with families in the audience.
I think for so many years the Opry has catered to the older artist. I know they earned it and rightfully so! Young and old should be appreciated and not slammed.
Now, they are trying to keep up with whats being played on the radio, the ones with record deals. The audiences demand it, it's bringing more revenue to Nashville. I don't call that selling out. I love all kinds of music and thats the truth Just one more opinion. Theresa

You know; i really think that Nashville could probably help all of us here on the Forum settle this never ending ongoing discussion/argument(if the really wanted to)!!!!
My suggestion would be to let all the older artists + any of the younger ones who wanted to do the traditional style country perform 3-4 (Wed-Sat)nights a week at the Ryman Auditorium..
Let the younger "stars" perform at Opryland the same nights & see what the public buys.
It might have a very interesting outcome..
