As has been noted by many previous posters, Mike was an outstanding player and a really nice person. He was always a first class addition to any steel guitar show. RIP Mike.

Sorry to hear this. First met Mike at a steel show in Chattanooga, I think in 2003. I bought a CD from him and he gave me an 8 X 10 photo and said to put it on my mantle to keep the mice away. It's strange the things we remember. Anyways, great person and picker! RIP. Prayers for his family!

So sad to hear! Pulled up "Girl in the Glass" on youtube, and cried. What an awesome player! Another great musician and follower of Jesus Christ goes home. Peg and I send prayers of comfort to Sally, and all of Mike's family.

This is one of those times in my life that I am fairly certain I would have not crossed paths with this wonderful human being had it not been for that crazy contraption we call a pedal steel. My life is better for knowing Mike. RIP, my brother in Jesus. You made a difference, and you will continue to. Holly has now filled the steel position in her heavenly band. Rest in peace. I pray for your family.

I'm sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I met him just once, in St Louis in 2006 at The Convention. He seemed like a really good guy and sure played well.

My deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers go out for Mike, his family and friends.

Sincerely,
Chris "Tiny" Olson

It saddens us all when we lose a great player that's been an inspiration to so many that love this instrument. I loved Mikes' playing and style.
Prayers for his family and friends. Rest in Peace, Mike..
The difference between a musician and a savings bond is eventually the bond will mature and earn money.

I haven't seen this mentioned but Mike was a terrific vocalist, I liked his singing even more than his guitar playing. He was friendly and accommodating to everyone, so sad to see one of our greats leave us.

Such a heart breaking loss. Mike’s playing inspired me to buy a GFI. I always made sure to spend time watching him at St. Louis.
