I will say a few words here about my friend Dan Dugmore. Dan is more of an artist than a steel player. And that s not said to diminish his steel technique, because his solo on Blue Bayou is a steel guitar classic. Artistry is a rare commodity as far as musicians are concerned, and Dugmore has got it. That's why he has always been in such demand as a Master session steel player. He's not a technocrat with 8 knee levers on his guitar. He plays to the song and colors it, complimenting the singer while staying out of the way. I've sat in the studio watching him do it, and it's really genius in simplicity. I call it the haunting Dan Dugmore steel. If you took it out of the song, you'd miss it. He never says "look at me and my steel" when he's playing. He's coloring the song with simple yet haunting passages, always playing to the song and the singer. He does this on guitar also. Real artistry. Not just musicianship. You know it's Dan Dugmore when he's playing.
This is exactly how I try to play when I'm with a band for he has influenced me.
Furay is really putting it out here. He's not phoning it in. He's still got it. I'll be buying the CD and supporting the tour of it happens. Bravo guys.
