That's the whole point. It isn't, it's to save other people.

Wearing a mask to protect others has not been proven any more effective than wearing it to protect yourself. Just a matter of which one you want to feel smug about.
A shovel would be the best prevention. You then could dig through all the bull shit and get down to the true scoop!

...I guess I’ll go to the CDC site to learn about E9 string gauges....
Because apparently on this thread we have a Legg up on science...

Somebody needs to get in a time machine and go back over the last 100 years to tell doctors they don't know anything about science. They'll be thrilled. They can do surgery without having to wear a useless mask.

Sorry if that's topic drift... back to Bo's feeling that he's got no reason to mess with his steel because of such a strong sense he's going to be felled by the virus.

I didn't get the pessimism at first, seemed overblown, but I do now after reading his son's post: he probably spends a lot of time with dad, up close and personal.

Carry on. Either way, we're hoping everyone stays healthy.

Bo,

True, the odds are way better if you’re able to travel….

According to: https://www.statista.com/statistics/110 ... habitants/ ,

● The COVID-19 death-rate in the USA is 662 deaths per million people.

● There are 22 countries--including New Zealand, Singapore, and Thailand--with COVID-19 death-rates lower than 6 deaths per million people.

A long vacation to any of those 22 countries should increase your odds of NOT getting COVID-19 by over 10,000%.

A Google search on “how effective is wearing a mask during COVID 19”, lists dozens of statistics on the effectiveness of wearing a mask from reputable healthcare organizations such as these:

From UCSF, a highly-ranked medical center, on the effectiveness of wearing a mask:
https://www.ucsf.edu/news/2020/06/41790 ... ks-prevent

From the world-famous Mayo Clinic, on the effectiveness of wearing a mask:
https://www.mayoclinic.org/coronavirus- ... t-20485449

From the prestigious Univ. of Maryland Medical System, on the effectiveness of wearing a mask:
https://www.umms.org/coronavirus/what-t ... e%20spread.

EVIDENCE:
Countries such as New Zealand, Singapore, and Thailand--with COVID-19 death-rates lower than 6 deaths per million people--strictly follow mask-wearing guidelines.

I hope this helps you feel a bit better. :)
