Bands are playing at subway stations and claiming turf. Bands are playing ON the subway trains. It certainly looks like panhandling, but this is public transit infrastructure and I can’t imagine there are no contracts.
And sorry to take part in thread derailment, speaking of trains...

Nashville started their "Arts in the Airport" program back in the late 80's. I used to play (harp & sax) in an acoustic trio that played there once or twice. At the time, we could set up in the corridor right where passengers were disembarking at the gate. People dug it. It was fun. We got paid (don't remember if we were allowed a tip jar). Chet Atkins stopped and listened on his way to the baggage claim. I felt honored that he stuck around for 3 or 4 songs - even if it was to listen to our gal singer/songwriter and not me.
Thanks for sharing the moment and the picture with us Tommy. Brought back some fond memories of my own!

Tommy loves meeting and playing for the many travelers (adults and children) who stop to listen and for the ones who hurry by with a friendly smile and thumbs-up. He always has wonderful stories to share when he gets home!!!

Steve, he's usually there on Saturdays, but switched days due to a conflict this time.
