Thanks David, I'm a happy bunny. Making the bars for my fellow players is a service I enjoy, with the exception of making the tapered ones; Firstly It requires complex boring out for the stepped insert, secondly it takes ages to get the taper correct and thirdly polishing and finishing the bar takes over an hour just for that part of the process.
BUT I must say I DID enjoy making your, well at least the last part of making it..Holding it and feeling proud that I had successfully achieved the fabrication satisfactorily.

Jim Sliff wrote:Baz, I forward pics of my Beard & Scheerhorn. The Scheerhorn has two equal ends, the Beard two different. Both are relatively sharp, which is what works for me for hammers/pulloffs.
Oh, yeah - and dropped my big Ezee-Slide. On asphalt with a bunch of aggregate sticking up (don't ask). And it rolled.
Not a mark. That was surprising!!
Not the first time that I've heard that dropping the bar on the floor has no detrimental effect; Unlike what would happen to a glass or ceramic bar !!
Jim, could you resend the pictures of the reso style bars as I intend making some; Mine will be called something like "Double Decker" as they will be 'two-in-one'.. A bullet bar on top of a flat or angled end bar.
I've just bought a milling machine to do this job and also to make the replica Van Eps Dampers and Fender leg clutches...The next few weeks will see these projects starting..

Hi Baz,
Where do you choose the color you want... I don’t see it in the Dropdown menu.
Thanks, Dale

Glad to have contributed to the sense of accomplishment!
Thanks again though!

The Dropdown is generic, the colour, exact size and weight is decided in separate communications; Try

I just received the new bar today, and of course I had to try it out right away !! Great thing for me, is that I can hold it easier, no slip away through the fingers etc ! Weight seems very close to the bar I've been using for a log time, which is a JB type Dunlop..
I'll get more familiar with it as time goes on.
Nice work on these Basil !! And thanks for making it the same length as what I'm familiar with !

I received my bar last week and took to it instantly.
I echo everything that has been said already - about the tone, contact with the strings and the grip. Those reverse slants feel a lot more secure now.

So, I have been getting familiar with the bar I bought from you Basil !
It's seems a slight bit lighter than the JB Dunlop bar, which, as it turns out, helps to get around on the strings quicker !
There is no going back to the old bar at this point !!
I shoulda had this bar a long time ago !

I have two, and I really love them. One light and one heavy. I use the light one on the Frypan. The heavy one on the Tricone.

Are those colorful "show bars" solid glass or are they polymer with an insert also? A couple of them look translucent in the picture.

Basil,
I'd like to order one of your in stock bars
White-Wit-Blanc-Weiß
3/4†x 2-3/4†($76)
but the pop-up menu on you website only offers 3/4 x 3.
Do I order the longer one in the shop and make the payment there and send a mail with my request for the shorter bar or how shall I proceed?
Thanks for info
Steffen

Exactly, Steffen, just order the nearest size and select the correct S&H (Post and Packaging) from the drop-down menu. I will then follow-up your purchase with an e-mail where we will sort out the nitty gritty of the size, weight and such..

Me too. Just ordered one, would like to discuss the "nitty gritty". Thanks!

Are those colorful "show bars" solid glass or are they polymer with an insert also? Also, what's the word on the Fender leg clutches?
Posted: 15 Nov 2017 4:32 pm
by basilh
The "Show Bars" have an insert; their main structure is not Homopolymer(POM-H) they are a hardened form of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)as used in custom pen bodies etc. Hard wearing but not as much as Copolymer or Homopolymer. They are 87-89 on the Shore scale whereas the PMMA is 85-86.
Regarding the replacement Fender Leg Clutches, I haven't got 'round to writing the 'G Code' for my CNC machines, but soon.

Well, there's feminism, and then there's family politics. Two completely different things.

I bought my 1" bar a couple of months ago but it was a Christmas present, so I've had to wait...
Wow! I love the mellower sound of the Ezzee slide bar over a BJS. I like to play 'standards' - All the Way, When I Fall in Love etc and the mellower tone suits this style perfectly!
I still have thr BJS for something that needs a bit more 'twang' but the Basil bar is the Bees' Knees.
Highly recommended.
