Wow, this is really sad news. Even though we lived in the same town, I never got the opportunity to meet Chris in person, and I had hoped I would someday.

Chris' unique voice here will be sorely missed, he was always willing to say out loud the things that many of the rest us were thinking but wouldn't say in a post.

While many disagreed with his direct approach, Chris obviously loved music and the steel guitar but had little patience for any associated BS. He was thoughtful, intelligent and well informed, and with that, he kept the rest of us thinking and engaged.

i miss him already. i think i'll just go play my guitar now

I only knew him via the internet. He retained a sense of humour despite his illness. I shall miss his sarcastic wit.

We used to go to this jams over in West Sacramento(The Silver Spur) and down in Linda(Bowmans) with the Mills Brothers. This was kind of after all the picking jobs on a regular basis had folded. One day we were the only two people in the bar except for the band and he played a set and then I did and we both kind of realized we had equally contentious personalities. Our embracement of musical candor cost both of us some jobs but after he got sick we started laughing about it. We both said stuff that got us canned. I in particular mentioned a certain bass player who I described as "having found notes on the bass that had never been been previously discovered" that did it ...stuff like that Anyways he was as real as the day is long and all comments about his personality aside he was a decent fellow and a fine player

He was sick and he wasn't a complainer. It was obivious that he was a player without blowing his own horn. He had grit and I had great respect for him. I wish I could have known him RIP. Tennessee Lee

Rest in peace brother.
I enjoyed having him around. He had a unique perspective, and he will be missed.

I can only imagine how much heart he had when he was battling some major health issues.

This is very sad to hear. I appreciated his honesty, and his ability to be both sweet and a curmudgeon. I will miss his presence and my thoughts go out to his loved ones.

Really saddens me to hear of Chris's passing. Like many, never met him, but did receive several PM's from him. He told me some time ago of his illness. It seems anytime an Emmons SKH item came up he would PM me about it with an intelligent question. I would always refer him to Jack Strayhorn, LOL. Like many here, I found Chris to be very genuine and soft spoken through his PM's. God keep him strong wherever he is.....Chris was surely one of a kind. TX

DAMN! This such bad news. He and I had a few scrapes and tussles, mostly in PM's, but we always had respect for each other. As Ian said, I had it on my bucket list go up to Sacramento to meet him, but it never happened. I am really going to miss him.

RIP Chris, and play your butt off in the Angel band. You're going to be missed.

I often bristled at his "direct" approach, but I will miss him around here. I had no idea he was such a good picker, or that he was sick. Just recently we had finally exchanged a couple of pleasantries after a few rounds of discord over the years. RIP.

The other lead player, on the red tele, is a life long friend of both Chris and I, Bob Woods.

Bob used Chris on at least 7 or 8 albums of music.... starting with vinyl, and of course ending with CDs

Damn, my heart is heavy with his loss.

I've known a couple like Chris. Tough, fair and honest. Subtle as a punch in the mouth, and able to take the same as he dishes out. You always know where you stand. That's how it looked from here anyway.

I appreciated his candor and I always thought he could be counted on to steer new players straight. Recent posts showed him cutting through the bull and giving them common sense advice. New folks you missed out.

I never had any interaction with Chris, but from all the comments, I can relate to him. Sounds like he had no use for political correctness, and was willing to deal with people and issues directly, with no subterfuge, and not sugar-coating things to make people feel good. That's as it should be.

I really miss Chris already. Even though we never met, we did exchange emails and PM's quite often. He was very interesting guy and never blew his on horn. His views were close to mine on a lot of subjects. He never mentioned feeling bad and I didn't know his disease had progressed so far. I understand he was well liked in his area not only as a person but as a player. Miss you my friend, R.I.P.

I just saw this. I never met Chris, but I will miss him. One of a kind for sure. There was something about Chris where I didn't expect this, despite his health struggles. I enjoyed knowing him through the forum. Great mix of knowledge, generosity, experience and his own special brand of acerbic wit.
