It would have been more convincing if they'd lowered the price when they went over to cheapening their packaging (instead of giving us the '...we're saving the planet...' line).

The strings are fine but I don't enjoy the fact that they're entwined in pairs.

Maybe I'm just a lucky boy. I've never had a problem confusing their gauges. I just spread them out and there they are.

Maybe when I take off a red ball I replace it with the same color.

You don't like em'? That's ok. Different strokes as they say.

as I said I don't care for the color code

and im not blind...my biggest gripe is pulling out what looks like a birds nest and untangling
the mess to get um laid out

I never pay attention to how long it does or doesn't take to string my steel because I am very meticulous and thorough when changing strings. To me it is not a race to see how fast I can re string my guitar. However be as it may my original post was about the color code had I went to the classifieds and seen Mickey Adams' S-12 there was a great shot of the changer and I could have went off that. I never used D'Addario strings before and was just asking about the color code. Had I looked on the side of the package I wouldn't feel belittled about asking a simple question that I thought at the time was a good question... I guess from now on I will go back to trial and error and quit asking questions

I just wish they would make their new NY strings available for pedal steel. I got a chance to try a beta test version for regular guitar. They are more resistant to breaking than their normal XL type and stay in tune longer. I love them!!!

Mike...the color code is on the plastic package they come in, however, there are only 6 strings depicted, and their codes are shown...start with string 10 which is Brass I believe....then red....when you get to string six, they start over again, with brass.....kinda stupid I think....

The are very few actual manufacturers of electric guitar strings, and most are going to color codes, which is always clearly printed on the plastic packaging and box.

Any time I've ordered bulk strings they are packed in one package per gage.

I must be missing the problem, except for color-blind 6-string players...but even then strings are wound together in pairs in the pack, with wide differences between the pairs,.

So I guess I' missing the point - what is the problem?

THIS IS THE FIRST SET OF D'Addario STRINGS I HAVE USED I WAS ASKING WHERE TO FIND THE COLOR CODE THERE WAS A COLOR CODE ON THE PLASTIC PACKAGE FOR 6 STRINGS NOT 10 THE CODE IS ON THE SIDE OF THE BOX AND YOU NEED A MAGNIFYING GLASS TO SEE IT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was actually a good discussion of color coding strings. Some like or accept it, others do not.

It is interesting this post came up. I restrung my guitar this last week using the D'Addario strings.

My eyesight is not what it use to be, so had to go find my glasses. Even with that I had a hard time, so much so I put two strings in the wrong place and had to move them. Thank goodness I had enough tail to move them to a different head key and location after I cut them.

Took twice as long, and was a pain in the *&^*.

I have two more sets. After that, I'll be back to something else, probably GHS.

I don't think they lend anything to my sound to go through the hassle.

I personally like GHS strings. Don't see anybody referring to them on the forum, but I can get them in a local store, and I like the way they are packaged. I have use GHS Super-Slinky's and Hybrid-Slinky's on my six string, for years.

I've been buying them by the box, and using them for several years now...I don't think there is anything "better" available...after a few events, you'll stop whining...LMAO....If not Ill send you all some cheese

If some of the younger members here plow through this thread they just might get the impression that a good portion of the posts were written by a bunch of cantankerous old men who are on the downhill slide with deteriorating faculties.

I find myself when grocery shopping these days and trying to locate an item in reading the signs above the the aisles that when I am at the other end they can be on the blurry side ("does that sign say cooking oil?").

But so far I haven't gone up front complaining to the store manager that the signs need to have print that are twice the size.

Particularly since it wasn't all that long ago that I could read them clearly from halfway across the store.

I like these strings.Changing strings ain't much fun no matter what brand they are.

This is silly, but I don't like to see green, and purple, and red ball ends, hanging out of the tailpiece of a 2 or 3 thousand dollar guitar. And they are a jumbled-up bird's-nest in the package.

Best broken D'Addario story ever? Went to see bluegrass great James King. James has lost a lot of weight, but he was a bit "portly." He broke a string, and somebody hollered,"WHICH ONE, James?" James stood up, and said, "the red one."

And they don't use "Player's Points" anymore. I got enough old packages to buy a new boat--But now, they won't take 'em.

I wonder--Does Elixir make steel guitar strings?

I use GeorgeL'S stainless, not sure what all this color coding thing is all about. Hell I just order strings. Ok....that being said. I wipe my strings before, during, and after I play with a clean steel guitar rag (Cloth). Does anyone spray anything on their strings? I don't. Years ago when I played a lot of guitar I used Finger Ease. Just curious is all.

It's a pain in the neck to try and sort these things out on a dark stage, especially if you're color blind. I only use them because they're $9bucks a set, and it's all my local store sells. I did end up with a lot of nice prizes from their Player Point deal, and was sorry they stopped that. Wiping the strings down with a cloth dipped in Tri-Flow seems to help keep dirt and grime off.

I've been using Live Steel Strings for a while, but a friend gave me 2 sets of D'Addarrio C6th strings. He also gave me 3 sets of SIT strings, which I have never liked. I will be going back to Live Steel immediately. The E9 SIT strings have lost their tone after only 2 gigs and a dozen or so days of learning new songs.

I like these strings.Changing strings ain't much fun no matter what brand they are.

So why extend the agony to twice the normal amount of time.

I can put up with the itty bitty code on the box. I love these strings they sound great to my ears I am a D'addario user till I dead and gone.

Thanks so much for the pointer RE the colors on the side of the box. I have several sets of these I can use up now.

These are the best I’ve used..I just order the gauges I want instead of their sets for my S10 Ext E9..
