Haha. Nothing with my name, please.

Bar bends?

Russ, you make a good point. I guess people would have to find use for it before they'd call it anything. It's become part of my playing. I guess time will tell.

Although your demonstration was done on a Clinesmith...many could refer to the move as a "Fender bender." 😊

I do like "bar press" as that leaves room to name different presses such as forward slant bar press, reverse slant bar press, bar tip press, bar heel press, full bar press, superman bar press(bring an extra set of strings). Press describes the "vertical plane slant" while the horizontal plane slants are still forward and reverse slants.

This is a cool technique for sure.

"Vertical Slant" would oppose the standard horizontal slant. Or, "Tip Slant" and "Heel Slant".

Did you have to make string gauge/tension adjustments for this?

I've always been particular about gauges since I play long scale necks and like a certain feel: tight. Too much play would not work well, especially if the clearance to the neck was more shallow.

To answer your question, I didn't make any adjustments. It takes a good amount of downward pressure and practice to get it right.

new slant technique

Dear Mike,

Since you're pressing Down on the strings to get a Diminished or minor chord effect I would call this technique "De-Pressing."

All the best,
