The later versions of BIAB support General Midi II. I updated my tone generator to GM II and boy what a difference! I think GM II supports 1028 different instruments. I love it!! Image Image

p.s: I made it to Wally World last nite and picked up some blank CDs and am going to give it a whirl.

I've used BIAB for quite a few years now. You can get it on line at http://www.pgmusic.com
I have over 1000 songs that I have put into band in box and have a friend in texas who I share files with. As we enhance files, we send then back and forth to each other.
We should start a BIAB steel guitar club and share files to learn with!
I have spoken to one of the programers of BIAB and he is a friend of Herby Wallace. He is working on some ideas that we discussed to have a fret board that is ajustable to the number of strings and to the tuning of those strings. We have been talking about adding setting for pedal & knee changes. Version 12 has a start of this technology with multiple necks.
Email me if you want to share files.

Bill, I use BIAB on a Mac with OSX but it only plays in OS9 which is a little bit of a drag because I must restart my Mac each time I use BIAB and then again to close it and go back to OSX. I may need to get a second computer just for BIAB. But it would be worth it. Its a fine tool.

Don, I found out that just what you're saying is indeed the case. My bugaboo I have is that my MIDI adapter's drivers work under OSX, so BIAB can't talk to my MIDI modules in OS9. I'll have to see if I can install the driver in OS9.

I actually do have a second computer with BIAB--the Performa I'm trying to retire after having just bought a G4. Maybe I should use that, but I'd need to buy another sound module (Sound Canvas?) because it would have to be a completely different sound setup from my main music/computer setup. Either way, I'll get BIAB up and running soon, I think.

I love BIAB....my only complaint so far is that I have been unable to achieve a "realistic" fiddle sound! Any suggestions?

And there's no ukulele at all on BIAB. There should be 3 or 4 different ukulele sounds on it. This urks me a little. They give you whistles blowing, cars crashing, helicopters hovering and junk like that but no Uks! Does anyone know of any good sampled ukulele sounds on any other programs?

I've owned BIAB for about 11 or 12 years and I've had a ball with it. It lacks a bit in the country styles department. Who is this Harrison guy they mention? They sure don't sound like commercial country beds to me, but they can be edited down and modified. A friend just recently put together some swing/jazz tunes on it (BIAB 12) and the soloists were really inspirational to hear! You can also watch the solos going down in real time on the notation screen or the guitar screen. They even have a complete style disk dedicated to flatpicking, and the arrangements are hip.

Just FYI, BIAB v. 12 has ukulele samples and uke styles.

BIAB #12 has ukulele but I think you need a tone generator that supports General MIDI #II in order to play it. GM I tone generators do not have ukulele. In BIAB you have to pull down "guitar" and there it is as an option.

Yahoo has a Band-in-a-Box Group where you can down load files. Not too much Classic Country but quite a few Blue Grass songs available. Lots of pop music which some are nice for the steel. Its fun to look and its free. Jud Image Image

As a science experiment I just started fiddling with the lower end of the options this morning. You can actually get quite strange when you start replacing parts in a "blues shuffle" with "guitar fret noises", "bird tweets", "celeste" etc.
