Just a comment about the upcoming Portland Steel Jam:

Lap steels have always been welcome. I have heard several lap steel players every time I have attended, in fact they frequently "steel the show". There must have been a misunderstanding when Larry said he would always have lap steels at the jam and "THERE WOULD BE NO LAPSE". Afterwards we could all stand to take a few laps just to cool down. Since I always recall seeing lap steels at the jam I must have a lapse in memory.

Made some Nashville Number charts for the jam tunes - these are based off the YouTube links Larry posted. Just handwritten, and if there are errors, sorry

It's a zip file with 4 jpegs. Hit the download button at the top of the page (downward-facing arrow icon).

Just want to offer my gratitude to everyone today: to Debbie, Tim and Kenny for keeping us on track; to everyone who came and played so well for us to hear and learn from; to Bob for your kindness. Most of all, thank you Larry--for organizing and for all the time you've invested in your students. We all appreciate you--and this group of steelers--a great deal. Thank you for bringing us all together.

I had a great time! I wish I didn't have to leave early for my gig, but I truly enjoyed it while I was there. I appreciate how supportive everyone is as I stumble my way through the tunes....

Thank you, Larry, for all the work you do to make it happen - I can't thank you enough

Here are some pictures from the May 3rd Steel Guitar Jam. We had 21 players and they all played great and had a good time!! The Ponderosa was a successful venue, they treated us like royalty. Thank you to everyone who came to play and to listen. Thank you to Larry for organizing another successful jam!!

Thanks for the pics, I saw smiles for miles. 21 pickers I counted.

The skill level of the young players is going up and everyone noticed it. I feel it is because all of these players are working to some degree with a band, it will get you there quicker.

Loren, Jamie, Ben, Pauly, Brian, Josh, Chris, these boys have the skills and they are really on fire now. (I need to buckle down)

Thanks to all of those who traveled so far to pick with us, it is as much a treat for us as it is for you.

Next jam we might see:
Doug J
Gene M
Matt E
Ken P
Pete B
Will B
Steve T
Steve H
Steve R
Steve L
Bob M
Tucker J
Tab T
Dan T
Jon H
Eric H
Dave B
Wayne F
Dom F
Brian M
Dave H
Dennis L
Twayne
Scott H
Ian M
Russ B
Ray M
Wally G
Chris G
Neil R
Wayne M

Here is hoping.

What a great gathering and effort by Larry. It's very inspiring to sit with these fellow players and take it all in. A real wealth of experience and talent that goes way back and besides, I got to sit next to Dave Grafe, the mystic, who really put me at ease. Thanks Dave : ) also thanks to Lynn Stafford, Bob Muller, Harley James and Russ Blake for the kind words, technical know how, encouragment and gear help, and to Bill Moran for helping set up the deal on the 78' Emmons single neck I played at the jam. It's long over due that I got it to the show. What a guitar.

Hi Everyone, I shot the video at the jam. I had some audio sync issues and had to repost the video. The new link is below. I started coming to the jams a couple of years ago because I wanted to hear my uncle, Kurt Nichols, play. I have always loved the steel and really have enjoyed the wealth of talent at these jams.

The vids of past jams are the most popular on my YouTube channel. Lots of positive comments have been received.

The jams finally got to me, and I am happy to report that I'm now the proud owner of my uncles old Mullen RP D10! I'm hoping to get my chops up to speed for the next jam! After learning to play just a bit, I have all the more respect for your talents.
