Ist may that pedal steel is what's sexy with the people,
but if you ask me there's nothing like how intimate you have to be with a lap steel.
There's a reason guitars are shaped the way they are and all. People don't know.

I went back to the jam session again this week and I got to speak with the same guy. He was very interested in my lap steel, and I found out that he is in a band with a pedal steel player who is just a beginner and can't play "a lick" (pun intended.) I told him I teach lessons... maybe I'll get another student out of it.
Some folks are amazed that a smaller instrument can make such a full sound, with rich chords.
I got to show off my homebuilt 12 string lapsteel and hand out some biz cards.

It was a great time. :D

So, you are a real steel guitar player, right?

It's funny, and it's off topic I'm sure...

But I had the strangest thought as I approached the grocery store check-out: I'm a steel player!
Can't say where the thought comes from, but a thought can be a powerful thing.

And to confuse them even further, when asked is that a steel guitar when I play my National Style 1, I say "No, it's German Silver which is not really silver."
